EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Ohio State women's volleyball team (3-0, 3-0 B1G) earned its first sweep of the season as it handled Michigan State (0-3, 0-3 B1G) in straight sets (25-17, 25-15, 25-20) on Sunday evening at Jenison Field House.
For the third time in as many contests, Emily Londot recorded double figures with a match-high 12 kills. She had a season-high .357 hitting percentage (12-2-28) along with three digs and two blocks.
Mac Podraza did a little bit of everything as she hit .667 (4-0-6), dished 29 assists, dug three balls and recorded three rejections at the net.
Jenaisya Moore added nine kills and eight digs. Vanja Bukilic, who played in her first match of the year, had seven kills. Adria Powell connected on five of her nine error-free swings for a .556 clip, a season best, and led the team with four blocks. Kylie Murr had a match-high 16 digs while Hannah Gruensfelder chipped in nine digs, three assists and two service aces.
Ohio State balanced its offensive and defensive efforts by attacking at a .283 rate while holding Michigan State to a .063 clip.
SET 1: The Buckeyes and Spartans kept the opening frame close going point-for-point. Halfway through the set, Ohio State scored eight unanswered points for a 20-11 lead. Michigan State tried to turn things around with a run of its own but the Buckeyes held on, 25-17.
SET 2: After trailing 10-8, Ohio State overpowered Michigan State as it tallied nine straight points to go up 17-10. The Buckeyes kept rolling as they finished the rally on a 7-2 run, which resulted in a 25-15 win.
SET 3: The Spartans forced the Buckeyes to call for time as they went ahead 11-7. Out of the break, Ohio State went on a 9-2 sprint for a 16-13 advantage. Michigan State gained some momentum as it cut the deficit to three but back-to-back kills by Londot sealed the set, 25-20.
