
Buckeyes Win at Michigan State, 5-1

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's hockey team used four third-period goals to defeat Michigan State, 5-1, Saturday in Munn Ice Arena in East Lansing, Mich.
The Buckeyes (5-9-1, 5-8-0-0-1-0 B1G) and Spartans (5-8-2, 4-8-1-2-1-0 B1G) will close the weekend and the regular season series between the teams at 4 p.m. Sunday. The game will be streamed through BTN Plus and on Ohio State Radio.
Ohio State 5, Michigan State 1 – The Short Story
After a scoreless first period, the Spartans opened the scoring at 3:59 of the second. Buckeye freshman Travis Treloar tied the game at 10:59 for a 1-1 game after 40 minutes. Ohio State scored three times in the first 5:32 of the third period – all in a 2:05 span – to take a 4-1 lead. CJ Regula put Ohio State ahead at 3:27, Tate Singleton tallied at 4:07 and Patrick Guzzo lit the lamp at 5:32. Collins Peters scored late for the 5-1 final. Treloar, Regula and Peters all had two points in the game with a goal and an assist, while Mark Cheremeta and Ryan O'Connell each had two assists. Both Regula and Guzzo recorded their first collegiate goals in the win.

"This was one of our better all-around games. Napes [goalie Tommy Nappier] made some big saves when we needed him. We played consistent and it was a more complete game. We need to keep getting better and get ready for tomorrow."

Ohio State vs. Michigan State
In the First … There were no goals scored in the first period, with the Buckeyes ending with a 15-7 advantage in shots. Ohio State had 11 of the last 14 shots on goal in the stanza.
In the Second … Michigan State opened the scoring on a goal from Jagger Joshua at 3:59. Buckeye rookie Travis Treloar tied the game at 10:59, putting in the rebound of a shot by Mark Cheremeta, with Collin Peters also assisting. Shots were 25-8 in favor of Ohio State in the period.
In the Third … Ohio State pulled away with three goals in a 2:05 span early in the period. Defenseman CJ Regula put the Buckeyes ahead at 3:27 with his first career goal, converting a pass from Ryan O'Connell. Kamil Sadlocha also assisted on the tally. Just 40 seconds later Tate Singleton scored off a pass from Quinn Preston, who took an outlet feed from Grant Gabriele. Patrick Guzzo followed with his first career tally, scoring from right in front, set up by O'Connell and Regula. The Buckeyes' final goal came off a faceoff win in the Michigan State zone at 15:07. Treloar won the faceoff to Cheremeta. His shot was saved, but the rebound was there for Peters to put it home. Ohio State again led in shots, 16-7.
Shots … The Buckeyes outshot the Spartans, 56-22, in the game. Tommy Nappier made 21 saves in 59:56 for Ohio State.
The Buckeyes had 11 shot blocks, led by Preston with four and O'Connell with three.
Special Teams … The Buckeyes had the only two power play chances of the game and were unable to convert.
Noting the Buckeyes … O'Connell had two assists for his first career multiple-point outing … Regula had a goal and a helper for his first two-point night as a Buckeye … Treloar leads the Buckeyes with six goals and 15 points and now has five two-point games … Cheremeta shares the team assist lead with Treloar with nine each and has three two-assist performances … Peters had his second career two-point game … the 56 shots were a season high for the Buckeyes and the first time with 50-plus shots since Dec. 29, 2018 vs. Mercyhurst (50).
