
Buckeyes Shut Out by Spartans, 2-0

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's hockey team lost at Michigan State, 2-0, Sunday in Munn Ice Arena in East Lansing, Mich. The teams split the weekend series after a 5-1 Buckeye win Saturday. The Spartans scored midway through the first period and maintained the lead the rest of the way, adding an insurance goal in the third. Buckeye goalie Tommy Nappier had 32 saves in the game.
The game was the last of the regular season between the Buckeyes (5-10-1, 5-9-0-0-1-0 B1G) and Spartans (6-8-2, 5-8-1-2-1-0 B1G). The squads also split the series in Columbus in November.
The Buckeyes' next four games will be at home in Value City Arena. Ohio State will host No. 4 Minnesota at 6 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. Saturday, followed by games vs. No. 16 Notre Dame at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 5 and 1:30 p.m. Feb. 6. BTN will televise all four contests, with Ohio State Radio also carrying the action.
Ohio State vs. Michigan State
In the First … Michigan State's Tommy Apap put the Spartans on the board at 10:10 of the opening stanza. Shots were 14-9 in favor of MSU in the period.
In the Second … No goals were scored in the second, with the Spartans holding the edge in shots, 8-6.
In the Third … Each team had 13 shots in the period and Michigan State got the only puck through, as Brody Stevens tallied at 8:38. The Buckeyes pulled goalie Tommy Nappier for the extra attacker with more than three minutes remaining, which turned into a 6-on-4 advantage in the final 1:02 after a Spartans penalty, but could not get on the board.
Shots … The Buckeyes were outshot, 35-28, in the game. Nappier played 56:39 and had 33 saves for Ohio State. Drew DeRidder had 28 stops as the Buckeyes were shut out for the fourth time this year.
The Buckeyes had nine shot blocks. Austin Pooley, Ryan O'Connell and Jaedon Leslie each had two to lead the Buckeyes.
Special Teams … Each team was 0-for-5 on the power play.
