COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Ohio State softball team (3-1) went the distance and then some against UNC Greensboro (1-1) for a 10-inning 5-4 walk-off victory to close the Carolina Classic on Sunday afternoon at Carolina Softball Stadium.
WHAT WENT DOWN
In the bottom of the first inning, Ashley Prange drew a walk and Kaitlyn Coffman singled to put a pair on. Up next, Avery Clark drove the ball down the right field line to plate Prange and put the Buckeyes on the board. Taylor Pack stepped up with a two-RBI single for a 3-0 Buckeye lead.
UNCG responded in the second inning as it took advantage of three bases-loaded walks, which tied the game at 3-3.
Ohio State retired nine straight Spartans between the third and sixth innings but struggled to convert offensively. Both teams had multiple chances but could not get it done in regulation.
After going back and forth, international tiebreaker rules were applied in the 10th inning. UNCG struck first in the top half of the 10th after an OSU fielding error let a run in, 4-3.
In the bottom of the frame, Niki Carver was placed on second, per international rules, and Taylor Pack had a single to get on base. Carley Gaskill came in and laid down a perfectly executed bunt to send Carver across home plate to tie the game. The hits kept coming as Tegan Cortelletti drove the ball back to the pitcher to load the bases. A fly ball out to center field gave Pack time to sprint in for the 5-4 walk-off win.

RHP Payton Buresch (2-1) recorded her second win of the weekend after handling 9.0 innings of work. She gave up three hits and one unearned run while also dealing a career-high eight strikeouts. Skylar Hayward started the game and lasted one inning, where she allowed five walks and three runs.
