COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 9-ranked Ohio State women’s ice hockey team swept St. Lawrence in the Scarlet and Gray’s season opener Sept. 27-28. Over the weekend three Buckeyes earned game pucks including freshman Teghan Inglis, sophomore Madison Bizal and assistant coach Emily West.
Teghan Inglis notched her first career goal in Saturday’s 3-2 victory over the Saints. With the Buckeyes trailing by one, the defenseman fired off a shot from inside the blue line which soared into the upper left corner of the net. On the weekend Inglis tallied one goal and one assist for two points.
With 1:04 remaining in Saturday’s matchup, Bizal evened the score and netted her first career goal. The sophomore defender found herself alone in front of the cage and capitalized on a one time shot that was dished off by junior Tatum Skaggs. Bizal now has seven career points from one goal and six assists.
New to the bench this season, assistant coach Emily West was awarded a game puck after Friday’s 4-1 win over the Saints for her first win as a Buckeye.
“She’s going to be a calming but confident presence,” said Head Coach Nadine Muzerall of West. “I had the pleasure of coaching Emily for one year with Minnesota and she was our captain, so she has that leader presence to begin with. The girls have really responded well to her and she knows the game of hockey. She’s confident but she’ll relax them at the same time when it can get pretty hectic on the bench.”
WEEKEND HARD HATS
After each game the team hard hat is awarded to the most deserving individual from the previous recipient. This weekend Coach Muzerall awarded redshirt senior Jincy Dunne with Friday’s hard hat. Dunne came away from the game with one assist, two shots and eight blocked shots.
After the sweep on Saturday Dunne passed on the hard hat to Bizal, who earned her first career goal in the contest.
“We didn’t give up the whole entire game,” said Bizal. “We kept going and kept driving the net and it worked out. On my goal, I got a great pass from Tatum and thankfully it went in.”
