
Ohio State Tops NIU at Husky Classic

SEATTLE, Wash. – Ohio State wrapped up its time at the Husky Classic with a 3-2 victory over NIU on Sunday morning. The win lifts the Buckeyes to 11-6 overall while the Huskies drop to 9-11.
IN A NUTSHELL
NIU struck first in the bottom of the fourth as a run came across on a wild pitch.
Ohio State fought back in the fifth behind three runs on two hits and an error. Kallie Boren started the half with a walk and Spencer Sansom entered as a pinch runner. Claire Nicholson laid down a bunt and made it to first safely on a throwing error by the third baseman, giving Sansom time to get to third.
Constable entered to run for Nicholson and immediately stole second. Niki Carver hit a RBI single and got to second base on the throw while Constable advanced to third and Sansom scored to tie the game at 1-1. Staring down two outs, Lilli Piper roped a two-RBI double to the left field wall, putting the Buckeyes up 3-1.
Another wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth let in a Husky run.
NIU had runners on the corners in the seventh and a heads up 2-4-5 play resulted in Ashley Prange making a crucial tag at third base as a Husky tried to steal.
RHP Morgan Ray (5-3) tossed five innings, allowing two runs and four hits while striking out five batters. Lauren Rice earned her first save as a Buckeye after giving up one hit in two innings of relief.
