MATCH STATISTICS
Â
HISTORY WITH THE BIG RED
The Buckeyes hosted Cornell for the first meeting back in 1929, a 15-13 win for Ohio State. Rematches have been sparse over the last 90 years with only 14 duals in total. The Big Red own a slim 7-6-1 advantage in the all-time series. The two institutions have become reacquainted in recent times though. After a complete absence from 1933-97, the ledger has been rekindled 10 times in the last two decades.
MOORE EARNS BIG TEN WRESTLER OF THE WEEK HONORS
Redshirt junior Kollin Moore took out a pair of top-12 opponents in the same weekend (Feb. 15-17) and was awarded for his superb efforts when the Big Ten Conference named him co-B1G Wrestler of the Week. Moore opened the weekend with a 12-5 decision on the road over Purdue’s Christian Brunner, ranked ninth nationally. He then came back two days later in the 2018-19 home finale and defeated No. 11 Eric Schultz (Nebraska) in dramatic fashion. The bout spilled over into sudden victory, where Moore hit a takedown less than 10 seconds into the extra period for a 7-5 win.
SENIOR CLASS 2019
Ohio State’s four-man senior class of Te’Shan Campbell, Micah Jordan, Myles Martin and Joey McKenna were recognized last Sunday (Feb. 17) for ‘Senior Day 2019.’ The quartet has accumulated impressive numbers in their careers and combined for:
-Seven All-America honors
-380-78 (.830) career record
-282-56 (.834) record as Buckeyes
-239 bonus-point wins (63% of career wins)
(92 major decisions, 79 tech falls, 68 pins)
-75-20 (.789) Big Ten dual mark
This group is also 12-for-12 in qualifying for the NCAA Championships over the past three seasons.
THIRTEEN REMAIN UNDEFEATED
Myles Martin is one of only 13 wrestlers nationally to own a flawless season record (10-match minimum) entering this week. Martin is 16-0 with seven wins over top-20 opponents.
IN THE FLAMES WITH MICAH JORDAN
The last eight duals have gone swimmingly for Micah Jordan. He is averaging 4.875 team points earned per bout with three pins, two tech falls and two major decisions.
MCKENNA MASTERY
Joey McKenna has outscored his opposition by a combined score of 163-40 thus far in 2018-19 (not counting his two pins). He has surrendered only three takedowns and a reversal all season long.
MARTIN BOASTS BIG BONUS TOTALS
Myles Martin has failed to notch bonus points just four times this season and has posted only 11 decisions in 47 wins over the past two seasons combined. The Buckeye senior has secured bonus points in 36 bouts as an upperclassman with 15 tech falls, 13 major decisions and eight pins since the start of the ‘17-18 campaign.
POUND-FOR-POUND
FloWrestling maintains a `pound-for-pound’ Top-20 and Ohio State represents 20-percent of the group. The Buckeyes included are No. 6 Myles Martin, No. 12 Joey McKenna, No. 13 Kollin Moore and No. 17 Micah Jordan.
