COLUMBUS, Ohio — Buckeyes from the past and present will represent the scarlet and gray this weekend as Alec Yoder, Sean Melton, Will Jeffreys and Seth Delbridge head to the Winter Cup Challenge. The competition runs from Feb. 15-17 in Las Vegas.
The meet helps to determine the 12 members of the United States Men’s Senior National Team through the 2019 U.S. Gymnastics Championships in Kansas City, Missouri on August 8-11.
All four Buckeyes are competing in the senior division on Friday, 28 participants on Friday advance to the finals on Sunday. The four gymnasts with the top combined all-around scores for the weekend automatically qualify for the National Team, while the remaining 11 spots for the team and alternates are determined by the Men’s Program Committee.
Last year at the Winter Cup both Melton and Yoder retained their spots on the 2018 U.S. National Team with strong performances, Melton tallied a 165.600 score for the weekend, good for fifth overall, while Yoder came in sixth place with a 164.800. Melton’s 28.700 on the rings last year took first place, while Yoder claimed first place on the pommel horse with a two-day total of 29.950.
The rest of the team remains in Columbus, grinding away ahead of the Arnold Challenge set for March 2 in Columbus.
