No. 5 Ohio State Skates Past No. 7 Princeton, 5-2

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The No. 5-ranked Ohio State women’s ice hockey team defeated No. 7 Princeton by a margin of three in the non-conference series finale in Las Vegas, Nev. Junior forward Liz Schepers scored two first-period goals and freshman defender Teghan Inglis clinched the game winner late in the second. With the win, Ohio State improves to 11-5-4 (6-3-3 WCHA) while Princeton slips to 11-4-0 (8-3-0 ECAC).
Buckeye Bits
- Liz Schepers scored two first-period goals to give the Buckeyes the early lead.
- Emma Maltais and Tatum Skaggs tallied four assists each in the contest. The duo both assisted Schepers’ opening goals while Skaggs assisted Gabby Rosenthal’s power play goal and Maltais assisted Skaggs’ late third period tally.
- Teghan Inglis scored her third goal of the season and third of her career from a shot inside the blue line. It marks her first game-winning-goal.
- Gabby Rosenthal scored on a Buckeye power play in the third period. The OSU power play was 1-3 on the day.
- Tatum Skaggs finished the game with five points from one goal late in the third period and four assists.
- Andrea Braendli tallied 29 saves in the contest and improves to 7-4-4 on the season.
Ohio State 5, Princeton 2
First Period
Liz Schepers put the Buckeyes on the board first in the seventh minute of play and gave Ohio State the first lead of the weekend. Princeton answered just one minute later but Schepers’ second first-period goal gave Ohio State the 2-1 advantage going into the second stanza. Both of Schepers’ goals were assisted by line mates, Tatum Skaggs and Emma Maltais.
Second Period
Teghan Inglis scored her third goal of the season and third career goal to start the second period. Her goal ended up being the game-winning-goal in the contest. Inglis was also assisted by Maltais and Skaggs, giving them three assists each on three goals.
Third Period
With a 3-1 advantage going into the final period, the Buckeyes were awarded a power play and sophomore Gabby Rosenthal scored her third goal of the season to extend the lead. Princeton answered with a power play goal of their own with time running out but Skaggs sealed the deal with an even strength goal with 16 seconds left to play.
