COLUMBUS, Ohio – Mikael Torpegaard was defeated by Michael Mmoh 7-5, 6-3 on Saturday afternoon at the ATP Columbus Challenger.
Mmoh entered the match ranked No. 124 in the ATP world rankings, and held on to defeat Torpegaard in two sets.
In two appearances at the Columbus Challenger, Torpegaard has finished in the semifinals or better each time, including a tournament title back in 2016.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Former Ohio State Buckeye Mikael Torpegaard advanced to the semifinals of the Columbus Challenger on Friday by defeating world No. 366 Thai-Son Kwiatkowski 6-4, 6-2.
Torpegaard previously won the ATP Columbus Challenger in 2016 when he defeated Benjamin Becker 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 in the final.
In the semifinals Torpegaard will face the third seed and world No. 124 Michael Mmoh. Mmoh defeated six seed Alexei Popyrin 6-3, 7-5 in the quarterfinals on Friday.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A tough day for Ohio State on the courts as John McNally was defeated by Dominik Koepfer in singles, and the doubles pair of Hunter Tubert and McNally fell in the quarterfinals.
ATP No. 187 Dominik Koepfer defeated McNally 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 on Thursday. Koepfer and McNally went back in forth in the first set, but Koepfer held the upper hand. McNally responded well in the second set taking a commanding 3-1 lead early. Koepfer made it difficult on McNally, bringing it to 4-4 before McNally took control and won 6-4. Koepfer would ultimately win the match after taking a 5-1 lead in the final set. McNally got back into it with a couple games won, including a few aces, but the Cincinnati-native fell short.
McNally’s day wasn’t over as his tournament play continued in the doubles quarterfinals. Tubert and McNally, both currently ranked in the ITA Top 40 doubles pairings, took on ATP doubles No. 192 Toshihide Matsui and No. 204 Sam Verbeek. It was a hard-fought match but the Buckeyes were defeated 6-4, 6-4.
Former Buckeye Mikael Torpegaard will next take onworld No. 366 Thai-Son Kwiatkowski.
Ohio State had a good run in the 2018 ATP Columbus Challenger and will look to build on this week’s play with a trip to Tulsa on September 29 for the ITA All-American Championship.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A hot and cold day for the Buckeyes at the 2018 Columbus Challenger as JJ Wolf falls to Mikael Torpegaard, the doubles tandem of Wolf and Martin Joyce bow out in the quarterfinals while John McNally and Hunter Tubert advance in doubles.
Wolf’s run in the 2018 Columbus Challenger fell short Wednesday afternoon as former Buckeye Mikael Torpegaard defeated Wolf 6-1, 6-4.
Torpegaard, a 2018 Ohio State graduate, started strong winning the first four games of the inaugural set and ultimately won 6-1. Wolf found more success in the second set but would fall short again 6-4. Torpegaard moves on to the singles quarterfinals and will face world No. 366 Thai-Son Kwiatkowski.
Wolf also competed in doubles in the evening alongside Martin Joyce, but the pair were narrowly defeated by the No. 4 seed duo of Benjamin Lock and Robert Galloway 2-6, 7-6(5), 10-8
A pair of Buckeyes were victorious Wednesday when the doubles partnership of John McNally and Hunter Tubert defeated the No. 2 seeded pairing of Hunter Reese and Evan King 3-6, 6-3, 10-8.
McNally and Tubert will next matchup against Toshihide Matsui and Sem Verbeek in the doubles quarterfinals. As McNally’s success continues this week, he next faces the No. 5 seed Dominik Koepfer in the singles competition.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Buckeye represented well in the opening round of the ATP Columbus Challenger. Playing on their home court at the OSU Varsity Tennis Center, three Buckeyes notched first round singles wins and a doubles team also advanced to the second round.
Recent graduate Mikael Torpegaard, who is in his first season as a professional, knocked-off No. 8 seed and world No. 217 Maverick Banes 7-6(3), 6-4. Torpegaard took advantage of his big first serve, notching 10 aces in the match.
JJ Wolf had a number of impressive wins against professional players this summer and that continued on Monday as he took down world No. 266 Jan Choinski 7-5, 6-4. That sets him up for a second round match with former teammate and good friend Torpegaard.
John McNally didn’t start his tournament until Tuesday but he looked just as good as his fellow Buckeyes as he beat former Virginia standout Ryan Shane in a closely contested match 7-6(5), 7-5. There was just one service break the entire match and it was by McNally at 6-5 in the second. He advances to face the winner of the match between David Perez Sanz and Dominik Koepfer.
Martin Joyce took the second set from No. 2 seed Peter Polansky in a tiebreak 13-11 but ultimately fell in the third set. That came one day after he and Wolf teamed to win their first round doubles match over Koepfer and Andrew Harris 6-4, 6-1. They will now take on the fourth-seeded team of Robert Galloway and Benjamin Lock in the second round.
The final Buckeye team to get underway will be McNally and Hunter Tubert. They will play on Wednesday against the No. 2 seeded team of Evan King and Hunter Reese.
In qualifying action over the weekend, Kyle Seelig took down teammate Alex Kobelt in the first round before falling in the second round. Tim Seibert and Hunter Tubert also competed in singles qualifiers on Saturday.
