8/1/2018 3:58:48 PM | Women's Volleyball
It took 34 hours for the team to arrive in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil including a short layover in Atlanta!

We arrived in Rio around 8 p.m. and went straight to dinner to enjoy an assortment of meats, fishes, rice and veggies. After dinner, we took a walk around Copacabana Beach.
Our first full day in Rio! The team took lots of photos in front of Christ the Redeemer. Later in the evening we competed in our first match versus the local pro team, Tijuca. That night, we had dinner at Bia Franklin’s house. Her family served a traditional Brazilian meal and we ended the evening singing karaoke.

We started the day off with lots of fun on the beach. We went paddle boarding and biked around. After we got a little tan, the team drove 2 hours to Saquarema where the Brazilian Olympic volleyball teams train and played a match versus the U20 Brazilian team.
Lots of volleyball! We started the morning off playing the U20 Brazilian team. After the match, we walked to a local school to interact with some of the children. We learned that when they cross their hands over their hearts, it means they want a hug! Needless to say, we gave out a lot of hugs that day. We concluded the day with another match against the U20 team and gave them a little piece of home, Buckeye shirts!
We started the morning with a nice workout with a beautiful view. After that, we left Saquarema and drove back to Rio to check out Sugarloaf Mountain. Later that evening, we flew 5.5 hours to Lima, Peru.
Hello Peru! We started the day at a local art school for kids with disabilities where we enjoyed playing instruments and did some art projects. Geoff joined in on the fun and showed off his dance moves! That night, we played the U20 Peruvian national team.

The team woke up early to host a volleyball clinic for a local school. We taught them the fundamentals of our sport and had lots of fun. In the afternoon, we did some sightseeing around Lima followed by another match with the U20 team. It was awesome to be able to play a lot of volleyball in a different country.

Rise and shine! The team took an early 530 a.m. flight to Cusco over the Andes Mountains. Once we landed in Cusco, we stopped at a market to walk around and shop. In the afternoon, we took a bus to a women’s co-op where they have alpacas and make traditional clothing.
The day stated with a beautiful hour and a half train ride to Machu Picchu. The train was a 360 train which meant the ceilings and walls were glass so we could see EVERYTHING! The day was spent learning and exploring the history of Machu Picchu.
Final day in South America! The team took a bus back to Cusco and hosted a clinic at a local school where we donated Ohio State shirts and volleyballs for the kids. We ended the day with a traditional meal before heading to the airport.
