Rio grande, p.r. – Behind junior Daniel Wetterich’s 1-under 70, Ohio State jumped up a spot on day two of the Puerto Rico Classic at the Rio Mar Country Club.
Wetterich carded four birdies as well as an eagle on the 344-yard par-4 sixth. The 70 was his 10th round this season at par or better and was a nice rebound after opening with a 78 on Sunday.
As a team, the Buckeyes posted a round of 292 which was a shot better than their 293 on Sunday. They were one of just two teams in the 15-team field to better their score from the opening round as the scoring average was nearly two shots hiring on Monday.
Will Grimmer and Jeg Coughlin III each posted rounds of 2-over 73 on Monday. Grimmer moved up the leaderboard to 60th while Coughlin III currently sits in a tie for 12th at even par. Will Voetsch shot a second round 76 and Josh Wick came in with a 78.
In the individual tournament on the River Course, the scoring average was also over a stroke higher on Monday. Caden Orewiler has carded rounds of 70-75 and is in fourth place, just four shots off the lead heading into the final round. Kevin Stone posted an 82 on Monday and is 16-over for the tournament.
Tuesday’s final round will once again begin with a 7 a.m. ET shotgun start and the Buckeyes will start on holes 12-15. They are paired with Maryland and UNCG for the final round.
