- The Ohio State men’s basketball team traveled to Spain for 11 days over the summer. The Buckeyes played a total of three games, one in each stop during the trip, which began Aug. 1 with a flight to Madrid. Three days were spent in Madrid (W, 93-61 vs. Madrid Generals), Valencia (W, 95-63 vs. Valencia All-Stars) and Barcelona (W, 68-66 vs. Catalan All-Stars) before the team returned to Columbus Aug. 11. The team also experienced several cultural tours, team meals and excursions.
- No Ohio State opponent has made more than 23 field goals this season in a game vs. the Buckeyes. Opponents are shooting 37.2 percent from the field against the Ohio State defense (211-567). Foes are connecting on just 28.8 percent from beyond the 3-point arc (63-219).
- Ohio State is ranked No. 15/14 in the most recent Associated Press and USA Today Coaches polls. The Buckeyes are 19-7 all-time when ranked in the No. 15 position and are 508-149 when ranked among the Top 25 in the AP poll. The Buckeyes were 10-5 as a ranked team in 2017-18. Ohio State was ranked No. 17 in the final game of the season vs. No. 6 Gonzaga a year ago in the NCAA Tournament (L, 90-84).
- The Buckeyes have three wins in four tries in 2018-19 vs. teams that made the 2018 NCAA Tournament. Ohio State defeated two of those teams on the road (Cincinnati, 64-56/Creighton, 69-60) while splitting at home vs. Syracuse (L, 72-62) and Bucknell (W, 73-71). - Ohio State will play 14 games against teams among the Associated Press Top 25 or receiving votes for Top 25 consideration. Eight of those games will be played away from Value City Arena. The Buckeyes face No. 4 Michigan (away), No. 10 Michigan State (home/away), No. 16 Wisconsin (home), No. 23 Iowa (home/away), No. 22 Indiana (away) and No. 25 Nebraska (away). Among teams receiving votes, Ohio State faces Maryland (home/away), Purdue (home/away), Minnesota (W-home), Cincinnati (W-Away).
All Andre Wants for Christmas…
Andre Wesson lost two of his front teeth and cracked another in a collision during the Bucknell game Dec. 15 at Value City Arena. Wesson went hard to the floor and had an opponent fall on him resulting in hard contact with the court. Wesson was whisked back to the training room by Ohio State basketball athletic trainer Jeff Deits and team physician Grant Jones. Deits, a former athletic trainer for the Ohio State men’s hockey team, issued Wesson a mouth piece that allowed him to return to the game. Wesson immediately received dental care following the game and will receive additional dental care to repair and replace the lost and damaged teeth.

Jackson is averaging 12.4 points a game and has the Buckeyes off to a 9-1 start … he reached 100 career 3-pointers made with three makes vs. Cleveland State (11/23/18) … for his Ohio State career he is (108-296/.365) from distance … has scored 731 career points after a 10-point effort vs. Bucknell and is on pace to become Ohio State’s next 1,000-point scorer … Duane Washington Jr. is 18-of-44 from 3-point range (.409) in 10 appearances … Kyle Young is 30-for-14 shooting this season (.682), Jaedon LeDee is 10-for-16 from the field in nine appearances.
Scouting The Youngstown State Penguins
Youngstown State is 4-8 on the season and travels to Columbus after breaking a five-game losing streak with a road win over Binghamton last Saturday (58-48). The Penguins victory followed losses to Robert Morris, West Virginia, Central Michigan and Western Michigan. Garrett Covington is the team’s leading scorer with 12.8 points per game. Kendale Hampton adds just under 10 points a game. Naz Bohannon leads the team on the boards with 9.8 a game.
The Ohio State vs. Youngstown State Series
The Buckeyes and Penguins have met four times previously with Ohio State winning each matchup. The teams last met Dec. 20, 2016, a 77-40 win for the Buckeyes at Value City Arena. The Buckeyes took on the Penguins Nov. 24, 2006 at Nationwide Arena in downtown Columbus. The No. 4-ranked Buckeyes won 91-57. The teams first met in 1982 (12/16) in Columbus with Ohio State earning the 81-53 win. The Buckeyes also defeated Youngstown State Dec. 1, 1990 at St. John Arena, 112-67. The Buckeyes were ranked No. 11 in that game.
Ohio State vs. The Horizon League
Ohio State is 25-1 all-time vs. the teams that currently make up the Horizon League. The Buckeyes have faced each current member of the league at least once. Cleveland State has faced the Buckeyes the most (9 games/8-1) and owns the only win among Horizon League members vs. the Buckeyes. Ohio State last faced a Horizon League team Nov. 23 of this year in Columbus when Cleveland State traveled to Columbus. The Buckeyes won that game 89-62.
