Starting Five
- The Ohio State men’s basketball team traveled to Spain for 11 days over the summer. The Buckeyes played a total of three games, one in each stop during the trip, which began Aug. 1 with a flight to Madrid. Three days were spent in Madrid (W, 93-61 vs. Madrid Generals), Valencia (W, 95-63 vs. Valencia All-Stars) and Barcelona (W, 68-66 vs. Catalan All-Stars) before the team returned to Columbus Aug. 11. The team also experienced several cultural tours, team meals and excursions.
- Ohio State improved to 2-0 in the Gavitt Games with a 69-60 win at Creighton last Thursday. Ohio State defeated Providence in Columbus in its first appearance in the event in 2016.
- Ohio State is ranked No. 23 in the most recent Associated Press and USA Today Coaches polls. The Buckeyes are 3-2 all-time when ranked in the No. 23 position and are 504-148 when ranked among the Top 25 in the AP poll. The Buckeyes were 10-5 as a ranked team in 2017-18. Ohio State was ranked No. 17 in the final game of the season vs. No. 6 Gonzaga a year ago in the NCAA Tournament (L, 90-84).
- Ohio State will appear on four major television networks again in 2018-19. This season marks the second year in which FOX will televise Big Ten Conference games. The Buckeyes, who have traditionally appeared on CBS, the Big Ten Network and the ESPN family of networks, will appear on FOX and/or FS1 four times this season. The first appearance will be at home Friday vs. Cleveland State at historic St. John Arena in the 2018 Buckeye Classic. (8 p.m./FS1).
- Ohio State will play 14 games against teams among the Associated Press Top 25 or receiving votes for Top 25 consideration. Eight of those games will be played away from Value City Arena. The Buckeyes face No. 11 Michigan State (home/away), No. 8 Michigan (away), No. 27 UCLA (neutral), No. 23 Purdue (home/away), No. 25 Wisconsin (home) and No. 20 Iowa (home/away). Teams receiving votes are Syracuse (home), Indiana (road), Nebraska (road) and Maryland (home/away).

Jackson is averaging 11.8 points a game and has the Buckeyes off to a 5-0 start … he needs two made 3-pointers to reach 100 for his Ohio State career (98-277/.354) … has scored 666 career points and is on pace to become Ohio State’s next 1,000-point scorer … Duane Washington Jr. is 11-of-23 from 3-point range (.478) in five appearances … Kyle Young is 13-for-18 shooting this season (.722), Jaeden LeDee is 7-for-7 from the field in four appearances.

Throwback Game at St. John Arena Friday
Ohio State will play Cleveland State as part of the 2018 Buckeye Classic at historic St. John Arena Friday. The game will tip at 8 p.m. and will be televised by FS1. The game is sold out.
A few notes on the venue:
- Ohio State first played at St. John Arena during the 1956-57 season. The last season the Buckeyes called SJA their home was 1997-98. Ohio State began playing at its current home, Value City Arena, in 1998-99.
- Ohio State has an overall record of 431-151 (.741) at SJA, which includes a 5-0 record in games played at SJA since the end of the 1998 season.
- The Buckeyes last played at SJA in 2010, an 85-60 win over Western Carolina (12/12/2010).
- The facility is named after former Ohio State director of athletics and men’s basketball coach L.W. St. John.
- The first game played at SJA was against Butler (12/1/1956), a 98-82 win for the Buckeyes.
- Capacity is 13,276.
- Since the Ohio State men’s and women’s basketball teams moved to Value City Arena, St. John has been the competition home for the men’s and women’s volleyball, wrestling, fencing and men’s and women’s gymnastics teams.
- SJA also is filled to capacity prior to each home football game during “Skull Session” where the Ohio State Marching Band practices and briefly welcomes the football Buckeyes on their way to Ohio Stadium.
- Between 1960 and 1964, the Buckeyes won 50-consecutive games on their home floor.
Scouting The Cleveland State Vikings
Cleveland State enters the game with Ohio State at 2-3 with wins in two of the last three games. The Vikings opened the season with losses at Davidson and to Kent State at home. Wins came at home vs. Urbana and South Carolina State before a loss to Samford at home. Tyree Appleby leads the team with 13.8 points per game. Stefan Kenic also adds double figures offensivley with 10.4 ppg. Jaalam Hill is the leading rebounder for the Vikings with 6.0 boards a game.
Ohio State vs. The Horizon League
Ohio State is 24-1 all-time vs. the teams that currently make up the Horizon League. The Buckeyes have faced each current member of the league at least once. Cleveland State has faced the Buckeyes the most (8 games/7-1) and owns the only win among Horizon League members vs. the Buckeyes. Ohio State last faced a Horizon League team Dec. 20, 2016 in Columbus when Youngstown State traveled to Columbus. The Buckeyes won that game 77-40. The Penguins will travel to Columbus for a Dec. 18 game vs. the Buckeyes this season.
