Buckeyes Beyond the Pool is a new series designed to share professional experiences, expertise and perspective with current student-athletes. These ‘real life’ talks are geared toward helping the athletes prepare for life after college from building their network, enhancing interview skills, understanding how to develop a marketable resume.
Mark Houston, an Ohio State swimming alum, was the first speaker of the series. Upon leaving the pool after two seasons, Mark changed his major (Biology to Business) and tried to balance school with his job, helping grow a technology consulting startup. After getting his MBA and watching the consultancy get purchased by a national firm, Mark started his career in earnest with Deloitte. Through his journey, he has used his expertise in business analysis, data analysis and data science, to serve customers in every industry. From delivery to strategy, bankruptcies to industry leaders, his varied experience has helped grow him into the leader he is today. While Mark is responsible for fighting fraudsters and protecting customers of Capital One, he is most passionate about recruiting and developing great talent.
