
Ohio State Takes Fifth at the NCAA Championships

West Windsor, N.J. – The Ohio State women’s rowing team racked up a total of 106 points to cap off the 2017 season with a fifth-place finish on Sunday at the NCAA Championships in West Windsor, N.J., on Mercer Lake.
The top-five finish by Ohio State marks the 11th time in 18 trips to the NCAA regatta that the Buckeyes have earned a fifth-place showing or better. Washington ran away with the team title by scoring a perfect 132 points and winning all three boat national titles, a feat that had never been accomplished.
The First Varsity Four registered the highest finish of the day with a bronze in its Grand Final. The crew of Ashley Saba, Joan Darnell, Abby Ernst, Kaylee Koker and Helen Sudhoff (coxswain) glided through the 2,000m course with a time of 7:16.47 to finish behind Washington (7:07.10) and California (7:11.70); the third-place finish earned the Scarlet and Gray 20 points.
The Second Varsity Eight – Stephanie Gase, Catherine McNutt, Maddie Perrett, Sarah Peffley, Annie Jachthuber, Sandra Dinter, Morgan Hummel, Allyson Baker and Anjali Fernandes (coxswain) – finished one spot behind the 1V4 with a fourth-place finish in its Grand Final with a time of 6:58.16 for 38 points.
Racing in the Petite Final, the First Varsity squad of Cassandra Johnson, Anne Dietrich, Alice Riley, Bridget Schodorf, Aina Cid I Centelles, Rachel Engel, Stephanie Williams, Ida Kruse and Cassidy Jenney (coxswain) closed out their season with a victory. The Buckeyes were in a three-way battle and prevailed with a time of 6:45.65 to defeat Brown (6:47.45) and Princeton (6:47.81) to place seventh overall at the regatta.
