Columbus, Ohio – Both the women’s and men’s cross country teams were honored for their academic achievement in the classroom last fall by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Thursday.
The women’s team posted a cumulative GPA of 3.56 in the fall, and the men’s team finished with a combined GPA of 3.06.
In addition, Evan Stifel was named to the Division I Men’s All-Academic Team. In order to qualify for the honor, athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and finish in the top-25 (or 10 percent) at regionals or as an All-American at the national meet.
Stifel was the top-Buckeye finisher at all five races he competed in during 2016. He placed eighth at the Great Lakes Regional to earn all-region honors. Dating back to 2015, Stifel has been the top finisher for Ohio State at eight straight races.
