
Buckeyes Finish 2nd at Stanford Over the Weekend

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State synchronized swim team divided and conquered this weekend for meets in Michigan and California. The Buckeyes swimming on the west coast began their Saturday morning at Stanford’s Invitational against teams from Stanford and Lindenwood.
“I was very pleased with how prepared we were, particularly in the technical portion of the competition. We have spent a significant amount of time improving our quality of performance in this area and it is paying off.”
“Although the results may seem otherwise, this will remain a close
competitive environment all the way to the national championship. Both Lindenwood and Stanford have very strong programs. We look forward to pushing hard toward the finish line in March.”
Emma Baranski finished second in the solo competition with a season best score of 84.3000.
In the duet competition the Buckeyes took spots two and three. Baranski took to the pool again alongside Elizabeth Davidson for their duet routine and scored an 82.7000. While Lorraine Hack and Alyssa Hoying’s performance was good enough for a score of 82.1000.
Hack and Hoying joined Monica Velasquez-Stiak for their trio performance and finished with a score of 81.8667 to come in third place. Baranksi, Davidson, and Morgan Boneberg posted a fifth place finish with a score of 81.6333.
Boneberg, Davidson, Hack, Hoying, Velasquez-Stiak, Wenjing Deng, Stephanie Thielemann, and Noelle St. John represented the Scarlet in the team competition. The squad scored 85.3667 and finished in second place in their routine.
The Buckeyes swimming up North had a stellar performance against teams from Michigan and Wright State. Caroline Jimenez won the solo competition (85.5550) while Alexa Aton and Jessica Giannuzi dominated with their duet score of 87.2000.
When it came time for the trios, it was Scarlet and Gray taking first and second place. Tori Baron, Sarah House, and Natalie Huibregtse had the top score with an 84.1000. The trio of Phoebe Coffin, Jasmine Pulido, and Lizzie Walsh finished behind their teammates with a score of 75.9500.
The Buckeyes had a lot to celebrate from the team competition with another first and second place finish. The Gray team included Aton, Baron, Coffin, Giannuzzi, House, Huibregtse, Pulido and Walsh had the winning routine with a score of 89.4250. While the Buckeye squad of Kaitlyn Carboun, Elizabeth Hernandez, Jimenez, Breanna Malone, Shea Ramsey, Lane Starrett, Rachel Warren, and Lizzie Welzien totaled an 83.1250.
