COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State University men’s golf team takes on historic Pebble Beach to open the 2016-17 season, competing among an elite eight-team field for The Carmel Cup 2016 championship rights. The tournament consists of 54 holes played over three days (Sept. 2-4) with a ‘play 6, count 5’ format’ for team scoring.

THE COURSE
Pebble Beach, located along the western coastline, will host its sixth U.S Open in 2019. It also served as the home of the 1977 PGA Championship. Ohio State’s very own Jack Nicklaus took home the hardware in the very first U.S. Open held at Pebble Beach in 1972.

YEAR TWO OF THE MOSELEY ERA
Head coach Jay Moseley embarks on his second season handling the reins of Buckeye Men’s Golf. He, along with assistant coach Brad Smith, mentored a pair of All-Midwest Region honorees a season ago and coached since-graduated senior Tee-k Kelly to the first NCAA Regional individual title in program history and a subsequent trip to the NCAA Championships.
FRESH SEASON, FRESH FACES
The 2016-17 campaign brings three new players to the Ohio State roster, and all three have made an immediate splash earning slots in the first Buckeye lineup. Freshmen Caden Orewiler and Jeg Coughlin III, along with sophomore transfer Daniel Wetterch, are among the six student-athletes donning Scarlet & Gray out west in The Carmel Cup.
All three are native Buckeyes hailing from the great state of Ohio. Coughlin captured an Ohio high school individual state title while Orewiler picked up First Team All-Ohio laurels. Wetterich played for Xavier University as a freshman in 2015-16 and was named both the BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and a member of the All-BIG EAST First Team.
TWO ALL-REGION PERFORMERS BACK FOR 2016-17
Will Grimmer joined Tee-k Kelly on the All-Midwest Region Team last year and returns for his sophomore campaign as a Buckeye. Senior Clark Engle is an All-Midwest Region honoree as well, receiving that distinction following the 2014-15 season.
