COLUMBUS, Ohio – Redshirt sophomore Sean Melton of the third-ranked Ohio State men’s gymnastics team was named NCAA Gymnast of the Week by the College Gymnastics Association (CGA) after winning three events against William & Mary and Temple Sunday. Melton shared the award for the week with Allan Bower of Oklahoma.
A redshirt sophomore from Orlando, Fla., Melton won rings (personal-best 16.050), parallel bars (15.650) and high bar (15.200) against the Tribe and Owls, helping the Buckeyes to first-place team finish. Melton’s career-best performance on rings ranks No. 1 in the NCAA this season and No. 2 on the all-time performers list at Ohio State behind former national champion Brandon Wynn. He won parallel bars and high bar for the third meet in a row.
The CGA award is the fourth of Melton’s career. He was also named Big Ten Gymnast of the Week on Monday for his efforts.
