Ohio State Posts 196.100 to Finish Third at B1G Five-Team – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s gymnastics team earned a 196.100 to finish third at a Big Ten Five-Team Meet Saturday afternoon at St. John Arena. With the third-place finish, the Buckeyes qualify for the evening session at the Big Ten Championships next Saturday in Lincoln, Neb.
Nebraska won the meet with a 197.000 while Michigan State finished second at 196.350. Illinois tallied a 195.950 for a fourth-place finish while Maryland earned a 195.500 to place fifth.
The Buckeyes opened the meet with a season-best 49.300 on floor exercise. Stefanie Merkle posted a team-best 9.900 while Alexis Mattern and Jamie Stone each posted a 9.875.
Ohio State then moved to vault in the second rotation, posting a 48.900 team score after Taylor Harrison paced the Buckeyes with a 9.900.
The Buckeyes earned a 48.875 on uneven bars in the third rotation. Kaitlyn Hofland posted a team-best 9.850 score to finish tied for third on the event.
Ohio State concluded the meet with a 48.900 on beam in the fourth rotation. Merkle and Harrison each led the Buckeyes with a 9.850.
Mattern finished the day with a 39.175 in the all-around.
The Buckeyes travel to Lincoln, Neb., for the Big Ten Championships next Saturday.
