COLUMBUS, Ohio – Kyle Turri, a four-year letterwinner at Duke, has joined the Ohio State men’s lacrosse program as the volunteer assistant coach, Nick Myers, Ohio State head coach, announced. Turri, a goalie, was part of back-to-back NCAA Championships with the Blue Devils in 2013 and ’14.
“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Turri to the Buckeye Lacrosse Family,” Myers said. “He has expressed a strong desire to teach and coach the game he loves. He has been an impact player for a program that has had more success over the past four years than any other in college lacrosse. We believe Kyle will be able to make a significant impact with our men.”
A native of West Islip, N.Y., Turri played in 41 games for the Blue Devils, posting an 18-2 record. He was the starting goaltender for the Blue Devils’ 2013 NCAA Championship team and a key component to Duke’s run to the 2014 title. Turri did not play as a senior in 2015 because of injury.
“Coach Myers and the rest of the coaching staff have developed a winning culture that was evident the minute I stepped on campus,” Turri said. “I am very excited to work and share ideas with Coach Myers and the other coaches, as we share many of the same philosophies and ideas already. I am also thankful for the way Coach Danowski and the entire Duke staff have prepared me over the past four years and believe this will help with my coaching career as a Buckeye. The excitement to get out on to the field is building.”
Turri helped Team USA to the gold medal at the 2012 FIL U-19 World Championship. He played for West Islip High School, earning honorable mention All-America honors, as well as All-Long Island Goalie of the Year accolades from Newsday, as a senior. The squad was 19-1 and captured the Suffolk Class A championship in 2011.
Turri replaces Jud Hall, the Buckeyes’ volunteer assistant coach the last four seasons, who has been hired as an assistant coach at Colgate.
“Coach Hall did an incredible job in the four years he was with us,” Myers said. “The work he did with our goalies, defense and life skills programs was extremely impactful on our men. He played a significant role in two of the most successful seasons Buckeye lacrosse has ever seen in 2013 and 2015. We wish him all the very best in his new coaching role at Colgate.”
