Buckeye Dustin Tynes punched his ticket to the 2016 Summer Olympics Friday evening, where he’ll represent the Bahamian National Team. Tynes will become part of a longstanding fraternity of Ohio State swimmers to qualify for the Olympic Games. To Date, the program has produced 57 olympians.
Tynes, a rising sophomore on the Ohio State men’s swimming and diving team, placed second in the B Final of the 100 breaststroke at the 2016 Toronto Pan American Games with a Bahamian national record time of 1:02.49. His split of 28.55 also broke the 50 breaststroke national record.
Those weren’t the only records Tynes has dismantled at the international showcase. Earlier in the meet, he became the first Bahamian swimmer under 2:20 in the 200 breaststroke, touching in a time of 2:18.13. Ultimately, Tynes placed sixth in the B Final of that event.
The 2016 Summer Olympics will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Aug, 5-21.
