It’s developing into quite the summer for the Ohio State men’s swimming program. This time, rising sophomore Dustin Tynes is capturing the attention of the international swimming community, breaking the Bahamian national record in the 200 breaststroke at the 2015 Toronto Pan American Games.
Tynes, a native of Nassau, Bahamas, obliterated the previous record of 2:20.31 with a time of 2:18.13. The record-breaking mark also labels him as the first Bahamian swimmer under 2:20 in the 200 breaststroke. This is his third national record, as he currently holds the fastest time in the 50 and 100 breaststroke events.
He will compete in the B Final of the 200 breaststroke at the Pan Am Games this evening. Stay in touch with OhioStateBuckeyes.com for updates on his progress.
However, that’s not all the news we have to share today. DJ MacDonald, who recently competed at the 2015 World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea, is moving up the ranks of fastest swimmers in the United States…and world. MacDonald currently ranks third in the U.S. in the 100 breaststroke event. His time of 1:00.51 also stands 25th among the world’s fastest times achieved this season.
UPDATE: Tynes raced in the B Final of the 200 breaststroke, placing sixth in 2:18.14.
