COLUMBUS, Ohio – Luke Maloney has been added to the Ohio State women’s volleyball staff as the Director of Operations. The newly-dubbed Buckeye comes by way of Stephen F. Austin State University, spending the past two seasons as an assistant coach for the Ladyjacks.
Maloney brings eight years of collegiate volleyball experience with him to Columbus. In addition to two years at Stephen F. Austin, he also worked a pair of seasons for Oregon State University following a four-year playing career at George Mason University from 2007-2010.
Maloney was a part of 40 Ladyjack victories, including a 24-win campaign in 2014 which proved to be one of the best seasons in program history and ended with a Southland Conference regular season championship. Maloney and the Ladyjacks cruised through a 16-0 conference slate, taking 13 of the contests in just three sets, to capture SFA’s first outright SLC title since 2006. The program ripped off 17 consecutive wins to conclude the regular season.
The Beavers of Oregon State utilized Maloney’s talents as their volunteer assistant coach in 2012 and graduate manager in 2011.
Prior to arrival in Corvallis, Maloney coached for NEVILLIZMS in Bellevue, Wash., a private company specializing in individualized volleyball training. The company was founded by Bill Neville, former U.S. Men’s National Team head coach.
Maloney played as an outside hitter and libero for the GMU Patriots. In 2008, he averaged 1.43 digs per set and served as primary passer en route to earning EIVA All-East Second Team honors. His 437 career digs still rank seventh all-time in school history. As an outside hitter, Maloney contributed to the top-ranked blocking team in the nation as well, posting 101 total blocks. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English, earning Dean’s List honors.
