COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State University men’s golf team is back in action this weekend, April 18-19, for the Boilermaker Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind. Hosted by Purdue, the two-day, 54-hole event will take place at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex on the Kampen Course, and feature a par 72, 7,465-yard course set up.
Of the 15 teams scheduled to compete, six members of the field – Illinois, Indiana, Northwestern, Ohio State, Purdue and Wisconsin – hail from the Big Ten Conference.

LAST TIME OUT
Ohio State finished third on its home course behind a fifth-place effort from Grant Weaver. The Buckeye-hosted Robert Kepler Intercollegiate provided four top-30 finishes for OSU as Tee-k Kelly, Clark Engle and Logan Jones all joined Weaver in that respect. Ohio State has now claimed top-5 status in two thirds of its stroke play tournaments this season.
THE COURSE
Kampen Course, home of the 2015 Boilermaker Invitational, has been ranked as one of the 10-best collegiate courses in America. The course has also played host to the 2008 NCAA Championship and will be the site of a 2017 NCAA Regional. Designed by Pete Dye, the course features large bent-grass greens, fairways and tees and has been awarded 4.5 stars on Golf Digest’s “Places to Play.
WEATHER FORECAST
According to Weather Channel, Saturday’s conditions should consist of partly cloudy skies with highs around 77. Sunday may bring rain with a 90 percent chance of precipitation and temperature in the 60’s. Mild wind may also play a factor throughout the weekend.
HIGH FIVE FOR TOP-5’S
Ohio State has placed inside the top-5 in six of nine stroke play events this season, including a pair of tournament titles at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational (Sept. 28-29) and Intercollegiate at The Grove (Oct. 26-28).
Clark Engle has competed in eight tournaments during his sophomore campaign, climbing into the individual top-5 in four of them. His best effort came at the Intercollegiate at The Grove, bringing home medalist honors with a 3-under 213.
UPPERCLASSMEN STEADY PRESENCE
Boo Timko and Grant Weaver have competed in all 27 rounds this season and have combined to contribute 44.5 of a possible 54 scores to the team tally. The Timko-Weaver duo has combined for five top-10 and nine top-25 results this season. Timko has 23 top-25 showings and 10 top-10 performances in his career while Weaver has tallied 15 and 7 of his own.
JANE AND WALT DENNIS GOLF PERFORMANCE CENTER RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS AWARD
The Jane and Walt Dennis Golf Performance Center, home of the Ohio State University men’s and women’s golf programs, has been named a Design Excellence Recognition Program Award recipient by the American Society of Golf Course Architects.
The Dennis Golf Performance Center was recognized “for combining the practicality of artificial turf with creative golf course design techniques to produce a unique indoor golf practice center.”
ENGLE EMERGES IN THE FALL
Sophomore Clark Engle climbed into the Golfweek Top-100 this Fall, ascending as high as No. 73 by semester’s end. He made the biggest individual jump of all Division-I players in Golfweek’s rankings during the Fall season after pacing Ohio State with a 71.5 strokes average in 12 rounds played. He tallied seven scores under par, including four rounds dipped down into the 60s. Engle saved the best for last, going out with his first career medalist honors. He earned Big Ten Golfer of the Week laurels following the Intercollegiate at The Grove individual title.
