Buckeyes Drop 6-0 Decision to SIU-Edwardsville – Ohio State Buckeyes

AUBURN, Ala.-SIU-Edwardsville pitcher Haley Chambers limited Ohio State to just two hits as the Buckeyes dropped their final game at the Wilson/Demarini Classic, 6-0, on Sunday afternoon on the campus of Auburn University. Ohio State is now 11-5 on the season.
SIU-Edwardsville put pressure on the Buckeyes from the start, as the first batter of the game, Haley Chambers, singled to left field, stole second and then advanced to third in a wild pitch. She eventually came scored by stealing home while Rachel Keller was thrown out at first base. Alex McDavid had the biggest hit of the inning, a two-run home run to left field that just cleared the fence.
Maddy McIntyre led off the bottom of the second when she was hit by a pitch and then stole second and third, but with two outs Jayla Saibene struck out, leaving McIntyre at third and Watkins at second, who had reach base via a walk.
The Cougars struck for three more runs in the top of the fourth thanks to a home from Jordan LaFave, who sent a 1-0 pitch over the left field wall. The base runners reached thanks to a single and fielder’s choice that resulted in both runners being safe.
Ohio State was not able to muster any serious scoring threats after that, getting it’s only hit in the bottom of the fifth off the bat of Saibene (OSU’s other hit came in the top of the first from Caitlin Conrad, who singled down the left field line).
In the circle, Olivia O’Reilly started for the third time this weekend and gave up six runs over four innings. Shelby Hursh came on in relief and did not allow a run over the final three innings of the game. Despite the loss, O’Reilly still enjoyed a successful weekend, picking up two wins, a complete-game shutout against Samford while giving up just fiveearned runs over 16 innings.
Over the course of the four games this weekend, McIntyre was Ohio State’s hottest bat, going 4-for-7 (.571) with two home runs and five RBI. Nester, moved up in the lineup to lead off, responded with a .400 weekend that included a double and two RBI.
Ohio State returns to action on Friday, March 6 when it takes on Miami (Ohio) in the Husky Classic on the campus of the University of Washington.
