Scarlet and Gray Shine at Notre Dame – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior Katie Borchers broke her own school indoor record in the 800-meter run Saturday at the Meyo Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind., highlighting an outstanding final day of competition at Loftus Sports Center for the Ohio State track and field team.
The new record time –2:05.56 – helped Borchers to a win in her heat, third place overall and the top time among collegiate runners in the event, which featured 82 competitors. Borchers owns the top time in the Big Ten this season and the sixth fastest in Division I track and field.
Another senior athlete enjoyed a productive day as well for the Buckeye women. Chesna Sykes followed up her personal-best 60-meter time of 7.30 in Friday’s semifinal with a winning time of 7.37 in final round competition. Sykes ranks first in the Big Ten in the event this season and 10th in the NCAA.
On the men’s side, redshirt sophomore Donovan Robertson earned runner-up honors in the 60-meter hurdles finals, equaling his season-best time of 7.76 seconds. Robertson is ranked fifth nationally in the event this season and No. 1 in the Big Ten.
Season-best times were set in the 400-meter dash finals by junior Champ Page and sophomore LaMar Bruton. Page finished fourth overall in a time of 47.03 and Bruton sixth overall – first in his section – in 47.13 seconds. The fourth-place time from Page ranks third in the Big Ten this season and 21st nationally, while Bruton’s run is fourth in the conference and 25th nationally.
Four Buckeye shot putters earned Top-10 finishes. Junior Alyssa Gary was fourth for the women with a personal-best heave of 14.98 meters (49-1.75), while in the men’s competition, sophomore Dylan Dyke put a bow on his impressive weekend with a fourth-place throw of 18.36 meters (60-2.75), good for fifth-place on the all-time indoor list at Ohio State. In addition, sophomore Aaron Zedella claimed seventh place (17.82 meters/58-5.50) and redshirt junior J.C. Murasky ninth overall (17.54 meters/57-6.50).
Ohio State’s 4×400-meter relay teams closed the meet in fine fashion. Page and Bruton combined with junior Deshawn Marshall and redshirt junior Antonio Blanks for a runner-up time of 3:09.29, the second-best time in the Big Ten this season and 11th fastest time in Division I. Sophomore Aaliyah Barnes, redshirt junior Aisha Cavin, freshman Beatrice Hannan and junior SoSo Walker placed fourth overall in the women’s competition in 3:39.68, the fifth-best time in school indoor history and a Top-25 time in the NCAA in 2015.
Other day two highlights:
• Barnes finished fifth overall in the 400-meter finals in 54.36 seconds. Hannan was eighth in a time of 54.58.
• Sophomores Anthony Johnson (1:51.37) and Jared Fleming (1:51.43) set season-best times in the 800-meter run.
• Junior Tammy Berger ran a personal-best time of 4:53.43 in the mile, finishing just shy of a Top-5 time in school indoor history.
• Senior Jackson Neff completed his 3000-meter race in a personal-best time of 8:17.17.
