Buckeye Bullets
- Ohio State is 51-44 in Big Ten road games since Thad Matta took over the program at the start of the 2004-05 campaign. Only Wisconsin (53-40) has been more successful away from home in the last 11 years. Michigan State is No. 3 at 50-44.
- The Big Ten announced the league’s 2016 conference schedule of opponents Feb. 19. Next year, Ohio State will play Illinois, Maryland, Michigan State, Northwestern and Rutgers both home and away. The Buckeyes will travel only to Indiana, Nebraska, Purdue and Wisconsin. Single home games will be against Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota and Penn State. Dates and times for these games have not been determined.
- Rookie Jae’Sean Tate currently holds the No. 4 spot among freshmen in Ohio State history in the season field goal shooting percentage at 58.0 pct. (94-162). His father, Jermaine Tate, is No. 5 at 56.9 pct. (115-202). Jermaine played his freshman season at Ohio State in 1996.
- Thad Matta has led the Buckeyes to 19 wins to date … all 14 of his previous teams have reached at least 20 wins, which includes one year at Butler, three at Xavier and all 10 at Ohio State.
- Freshman D’Angelo Russell has scored 512 (19.0 ppg.) points this season in 27 games … he is the 32nd Buckeye all-time to reach 500 points in a single season … The last freshman to score 500+ in a season at Ohio State was Jared Sullinger in 2011 with 635 points (17.2 ppg.) … Matta teams have had at least one 500-point scorer in 10 of 11 seasons prior to this year.
- Senior Shannon Scott has 201 career steals, good for the No. 3 spot in Ohio State history … his 135 career game appearances ranks No. 8 all-time. With 10 points, he will reach 700 for his career.
- Scott has 164 assists this season, tied for the No. 10 spot in single season history at Ohio State with Aaron Craft (2014). The No. 9 spot is held by Mark Baker (165/1992). Craft is at No. 8 with 172 in 2013.
- Senior Sam Thompson has scored 920 career points over 138 career games … his games played total ranks No. 6t all-time … Dallas Lauderdale (2008-11) also is No. 6 with 138 games played. Jamar Butler holds the No. 5 spot with 139gp (2005-08). Jon Diebler is at No. 4 (144gp/2008-11).
- As Ohio State had coach, Matta recorded his 150th win vs. Big Ten opponents with the 75-55 win vs. Penn State Feb. 11 … he has 154 career wins vs. Big Ten foes over his 15-year head coaching career.
- Ohio State’s four-year senior class (Shannon Scott, Sam Thompson, Amir Williams, Trey McDonald) has 104 career wins and has recorded at least 20 wins in its previous three years (31, 29, 25). The Buckeyes are 19-8 this season.
Russell Among Rookie Leaders in OSU History
D’Angelo Russell has already put together one of the best freshman seasons in Ohio State history. He has the No. 2 scoring average among Ohio State freshmen all-time at 19.0 points per game. His 512 points rank No. 4, 177 field goals made rates No. 7 and the 74 made 3-pointers is an Ohio State rookie record. He currently ranks No. 5t in free throws made (84), No. 3 in assists (145) and No. 6 in steals (44). Classmate Jae’Sean Tate is No. 4 among Ohio State rookies in field goal percentage at .580 (94-162).
Russell A Candidate for 1st Jerry West Award
The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Feb. 19 the 16 candidates for the Jerry West Award, which will be given annually to the top collegiate shooting guard. Ohio State’s D’Angelo Russell is among the list. The Top 5 candidates will be announced in early March. The winner of the 2015 Jerry West Award will be presented at the new ESPN College Basketball Awards Show live from Club Nokia in Los Angeles, California, Friday, April 10, 2015.
Havlicek Tabbed for 2015 Collegiate HOF
Ohio State great John Havlicek (1960-62) was named one of the eight inductees into the 2015 class of National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame members Feb. 17. Havlicek helped the Buckeyes earn the 1960 NCAA Championship as a sophomore. He won eight NBA titles with the Boston Celtics in 16 seasons. He was an NBA all-start 13 times and was named one of the NBA’s 50 greatest players. Also among the 2015 class is Charlie Scott, the father of Ohio State senior Shannon Scott. The elder Scott was a two-time All-American and the 1970 ACC Athlete of the Year. He is sixth in career scoring at North Carolina.
Russell Among Wooden Late Season Top 20
The Los Angeles Athletic Club named Ohio State rookie D’Angelo Russell to the 2015 Wooden Award Late Season Top 20 Feb. 11. Russell is one of four freshmen nationally to make the list. In 27 games, Russell leads the Buckeyes with 19.0 points per game. That scoring average rates No. 1 in the country among freshmen. He has six times been named the Big Ten’s Freshman of the Week.

? Ohio State leads the all-time series with Michigan, 94-76. The Buckeyes defeated the Wolverines earlier this season, 71-52, in Columbus Jan. 13, 2015.
