CHICAGO, Ill. – In a rematch of last year’s ITA Indoor Championship match, No. 1 USC got its revenge and knocked-off Ohio State 4-1 Saturday afternoon at the Midtown Athletic Club.
The loss drops the Buckeyes to 10-2 on the season.
After losing the doubles point, the Buckeyes Herkko Pollanen evened the score with a convincing 6-3, 6-2 victory over No. 20 Jonny Wang. Eric Johnson then took down Ralf Steinbach at No. 4 singles 7-5, 6-4 and No. 24 Roberto Quiroz defeated Mikael Torpegaard 6-1, 7-5 at the No. 2 spot.
The Trojans then clinched the match when No. 7 Yannick Hanfmann bested Chris Diaz 7-4 in a first-set tie-break and then took the second set 6-1.
Hunter Callahan was in the third set of his match at No. 5 and Kevin Metka won the first set and was trailing 3-2 in the second set of his match against Nick Crystal in the No. 6 singles match.
The Buckeyes will take on the loser of the Georgia and Illinois match on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
