Di Lorenzo Advances in All-American Championships Qualifying – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Francesca Di Lorenzo, a freshman on the Ohio State women’s tennis team, posted two wins on the first day of qualifying at the 2015 Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., Tuesday. Di Lorenzo, rated the top newcomer in college tennis this year, will face Duke’s No. 71-ranked Beatrice Capra Wednesday for a spot in the main draw.
In her first collegiate match, Di Lorenzo, from New Albany, Ohio, captured a win over No. 75-ranked Lucia Butkovska of Portland in straight sets, 6-0, 7-5.
In the second round vs. No. 42-ranked Despoina Vogasari of Houston, a 9-16 seed, Di Lorenzo advanced in three sets. She won the first, 6-4, before Vogasari won the second, 6-4. The Buckeye rookie pulled away in the third set, 6-2, to advance to the third round.
Buckeye sophomore Gabriella De Santis, ranked No. 117, fell to No. 52-ranked Skylar Kuykendall of LSU in the first round of qualifying in three sets, 1-6, 7-5, 6-1. In the first round of consolation, De Santis lost in three sets to No. 30-ranked Yuliya Lysa from Arkansas, 6-1, 7-6 (6), 6-2.
