Ohio State takes down Minnesota State, 4-0 – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio– Yesterday, Ohio State (4-4-0, 2-4-0 WCHA) notched its first WCHA victory of the season. Today, it kept that momentum going by registering its first shutout of the 2015-16 season, blanking Minnesota State (2-7-1, 0-6-0 WCHA) 4-0.
Whereas yesterday the Mavericks jumped out ahead to grab an early lead, it was the Buckeyes who did the same on Saturday. Dani Sadek scored the first goal of the afternoon 6:20 into the first period, getting assists from Lauren Boyle and Lauren Spring. Just 21 seconds later, Spring would find the back of the net for her first time this season to double Ohio State’s lead quickly. And then 30 seconds after that, before the Mavericks knew what hit them, Cara Zubko’s goal from Claudia Kepler and Kendall Curtis put the Buckeyes ahead 3-0 in a span of just 51 seconds.
The scoring outburst from Ohio State caused its counterpart to pull its goalie just 7:11 into the game and put in Brianna Quade, who had played every minute of the season thus far for Minnesota State before today. Spring welcomed her to the game by netting her second goal of the day, a power play score that came off of a deflection in front of the net. Julianna Iafallo assisted on the play as well as Boyle, who accounted for three helpers today.
Though the Buckeyes wouldn’t score the rest of the game, the four goals were enough to walk away with a 4-0 win. Alex LaMere earned her first shutout of her career in today’s game, stopping all 17 shots that came her way.
For the weekend, Ohio State outshot Minnesota State 75-29 and converted three of its nine power play opportunities. Defensively, the Scarlet and Gray killed all eight power play chances the Mavericks had.
It was a big weekend in terms of individual scoring for the Buckeyes, as 11 of the 17 skaters who dressed recorded a point (in addition to Friday’s goalie Stacy Danczak) and eight players had multi-point weekends. That crop of players was led by Kepler (two goals, two assists) and Boyle (four assists), who each had four points during the series.
Ohio State will have an off weekend before hosting Bemidji State for a two-game series on Nov. 6-7.
