Nation’s Top Teams Await Buckeyes This Weekend

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State cross country faces the top collegiate teams in the nation this coming weekend. On Friday, Oct. 16, the Buckeye women travel to Madison, Wis., for the adidas Invitational, while the men travel to Louisville, Ky., for the Pre-Nationals Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 17.
The women’s race at Wisconsin will feature 20 of the Top 25 teams in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings, along with five programs receiving votes. No. 1 New Mexico, No. 3 Providence and No. 6 Boise State headline the field. The 6k competition will also serve as a preview of the NCAA Great Lakes Regional course.
The men will run against 12 of the Top 30 teams in the country at Pre-Nationals in Louisville, site of the 2015 NCAA Championships. No. 1 Colorado, No. 3 Oregon and No. 10 Georgetown are among the favorites for the team title.
Race time Friday from Madison is scheduled for 12 p.m. ET/11 a.m. CT, while Saturday’s contest in Louisville begins at 9:30 a.m. ET.

Buckeyes in the Great Lakes Regional Rankings
The Buckeye men and women are both ranked seventh in the latest USTFCCCA Great Lakes regional rankings, released Oct. 5.
On the men’s side, eighth-ranked Michigan is the top team in the region, followed by No. 11 Wisconsin, No. 15 Michigan State, No. 16 Indiana, Purdue (RV), Eastern Michigan (RV) and the Buckeyes.
Michigan, ranked fifth nationally, is also No. 1 in the region on the women’s side. No. 14 Wisconsin is second, followed by No. 13 Michigan State, No. 18 Notre Dame, Purdue (RV), Indiana (RV) and the Buckeyes.
Last Time Out
The Ohio State men’s team won its 12th All-Ohio championship overall – and first since 2009 – Oct. 2 in Cedarville, Ohio. The Buckeyes finished first out of 47 teams with a team score of 39, placing four runners in the Top 10.
Sophomore Nick Elswick led Ohio State with a third-place finish among 662 athletes in a season-best 8k time of 24:33.1. Sophomores Clayton Bowie (24:36.2) and Evan Stifel (24:47.3) set personal-best 8k times for the Scarlet and Gray, placing fourth and sixth, respectively. Sophomore Mitch Leitch (10th, 24:54.6) and senior Michael Brajdic (16th, 25:01.6) completed the scoring for the Buckeyes in their season debuts, with Leitch turning in a personal-best 8k performance in the process.
The women’s team sent a group of mostly freshmen to Cedarville, earning a fourth-place finish out of 47 teams with a team score of 179. The top four scorers for the Buckeyes were freshmen, led by Emily Stoodley‘s seventh-place finish out of 592 athletes in a 6k time of 21:46.2.
The following day, OSU sent its top women’s runners to the Greater Louisville Classic, finishing eighth out of 30 teams with a team score of 272. Freshman Lilly Saniel-Banrey led Ohio State with a 44th-place finish among 260 athletes in a 5k time of 17:39.5.
