COLUMBUS — D’Angelo Russell, Ohio State’s freshman guard from Louisville, Kentucky, recorded his first double-double of his career with 27 points and 14 rebounds at Iowa after a 21-point, six-assist effort vs. Michigan last week. Russell averaged 24 points and 9.0 rebounds while handing out eight assists and recording five steals in a split for the Buckeyes. His efforts last week eanred him the Big Ten’s Freshman of the Week.
Russell, the No. 2 scoring freshman in the country, has scored 20 or more points in five of the last seven games.
The league freshman of the week award is the third of the season for Russell, one of three players nationally averaging more than 17 points (18.6 ppg.), five rebounds (5.1 rpg.) and four assists (4.8 apg.).
Ohio State playes at Northwestern Thursday (7 p.m./ESPN) and at home vs. Indiana Sunday (1:30 p.m./CBS).
