COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State University men’s golf team distanced itself from the competition on Day One of the Jack Nicklaus Invitational, carding a two-round tally of 574 (+6) to gain a six-stroke advantage on the rest of the field with 18 holes to play on Monday. Tee-k Kelly paced the Buckeyes with a 1-under 141 (70-71) and owns a share of second place following two rounds complete on the OSU Golf Club’s Scarlet Course.
Kelly, a junior from Wheaton, Ill., trails Kansas State’s Matt Green by just one stroke for the top spot on the individual leaderboard. Grant Weaver is nipping at their heels, carding an even par 142 (70-72) to crack the individual top-5. Boo Timko matched the aforementioned Buckeye duo’s opening round 70s before coming back at 75 in round number two. The 145 (+3) total gives him a piece of 13th place.
Clark Engle contributed to the team score in both Sunday rounds, posting back-to-back 73s and placing himself in the top-20 (t-19th) as well. Rounding out the Buckeye lineup was Logan Jones registering scores of 74-75 (+7) and sitting in a tie for 34th place of the 66-player field.
Three Buckeyes competed as individuals, led by Josh Wick and his 4-over 146 for a t-19th standing. Addison Coll (+12) and Sean Busch (+13) are tied for 49th and 54th place, respectively.
Ohio State excelled on holes of all length, ranking in the top-2 for Par 3, Par 4 and Par 5 scoring. At 14-over on Par 4s, the Buckeyes paced the field. Kelly was tops amongst the individuals on such holes, going 2-under on the Par 4 holes. He was the lead par collector as well, accumulating 27 pars on the day.

Ohio State returns to the links Monday for the third and final round looking to successfully defend its home turf. The Buckeye individuals will tee off at 8:50 a.m. followed by the OSU lineup from 9-9:40 a.m.
