BIG TEN PLAYERS TO WATCH
Juniors Tee-k Kelly and Grant Weaver and senior Boo Timko were the three Buckeyes named to the Big Ten 2014 Players to Watch List, the conference announced on Sept. 3.
Kelly was one of two Buckeyes to play in all 36 rounds last season, posting an average of 73.92 strokes. Originally from Wheaton, Ill., Kelly also earned a share of seventh place at the Big Ten Championships with a four-round total of 299.
Weaver, who finished tied for 29th in The Windon Memorial last year, is coming off a season where he only competed in three tournaments due to an ACL injury. A Wooster, Ohio, product, Weaver has been named an Academic All-Big Ten and Ohio State Scholar-Athlete.
Timko has been named PING All-Midwest Region and All-Big Ten Second Team for two straight seasons. The only other Buckeye to compete in all 36 rounds last season, Timko paced the team with a 72.94 season stroke average. A native of Girard, Ohio, Timko finished T-11th in The Windon Memorial last season, sixth in the Big Ten Championships, and undefeated at the Big Ten Match Play Championships.
THE NEW GUY
Ohio State welcomes one freshman to the squad this season in the form of Nick Sparling. Sparling, originally from Dublin, Ohio, is a two-time Division-I Ohio individual state champion (2012-13). Sparling is also a two-time Ohio Capital Conference Player of the Year.
UP NEXT
The Buckeyes have a quick turnaround after The Windon Memorial as they host the Jack Nicklaus Invitational on the OSU Golf Club Scarlet Course the following weekend (Sept. 28-29).
