Buckeyes Bluegrass Bound for Saturday Meet – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State cross country hits the road for the Bluegrass Invitational in Lexington, Ky., on Saturday, Sept. 13.
Ohio State will bring 13 athletes to UK on the men’s side, led by junior Blake Taneff and freshmen Nick Elswick and Clayton Bowie. The OSU women will send 14 athletes to Lexington, including seniors Katie Borchers and Michelle Thomas.
The men’s 8k race begins at 9:30 a.m. ET at Masterson Station Park, followed by the women’s 5k at 10:10 a.m. A complete recap will be available following the race at www.OhioStateBuckeyes.com.

Buckeyes Ranked Sixth in Great Lakes Regional Rankings
The Buckeye men and women were both ranked sixth in the preseason Great Lakes regional rankings by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
On the men’s side, sixth-ranked Indiana is the top-ranked team in the region, followed by No. 11 Wisconsin, No. 22 Michigan, Butler (RV), Michigan State (RV) and the Buckeyes.
Michigan checks-in at No. 1 both nationally and regionally on the women’s side. Sixth-ranked Michigan State is second in the region, followed by No. 12 Butler, No. 16 Wisconsin, Toledo (RV) and Ohio State.
Last Time Out
Ohio State opened the 2014 season at the Dayton Flyer 5k Challenge in Kettering, Ohio, Aug. 30.
The women’s team placed first overall with a team score of 19, placing eight runners in the Top 10. All five scorers for the Scarlet and Gray placed in the Top 6, led by Borchers, who claimed the individual title in a time of 18:20.0.
The men finished second overall behind Louisville with a score of 34. Freshman Mitch Leitch led the way for the Scarlet and Gray, taking third in a time of 15:45.1 as OSU placed four runners in the Top 7.

• Leitch is the third cousin of singer Annie Lennox, famous for “Sweet Dreams.”
• Freshman Christine Frederick is the cousin of Tamara Frederick, a member of the U.S. speed skating short track team.
