Melton Excels in Event Finals at Senior Pan Am Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sophomore Sean Melton placed in the Top 5 in three event finals Monday afternoon on the final day of competition at the 2014 Senior Pan American Championships in Toronto.
Melton, who won gold in the team competition and bronze in the all-around on Friday, finished in fifth place on three apparatuses: parallel bar (15.000), floor exercise (14.600) and pommel horse (14.550). Melton earned high placement for Team USA on parallel bar.
A score of 88.850 helped Melton, a native of Orlando, Fla., to a third-place finish behind Colombia’s Jossimar Calvo Moreno (89.300) and Cuba’s Manrique Larduet Bicet (89.250) in the all-around competition Aug. 29. Team USA posted a 352.550 to win team gold the same night, finishing well ahead of silver medalist Columbia (346.800) and bronze medalist Brazil (346.450).
Former Buckeye Brandon Wynn won a silver medal on rings (15.450) and placed seventh on high bar (14.600) for Team USA.
The Senior Pan Am championships serve as the qualifier for gymnastics to the 2015 Pan American Games.
