COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State Women’s Volleyball qualified for the program’s 20th NCAA Tournament, receiving an at-large bid to the 2014 postseason. The Buckeyes (21-11) will be sent to Lexington, Ky., for a first round match-up against Lipscomb University (21-8).
The winner of Friday’s 5 p.m. ET tilt between OSU and Lipscomb advances to a second round meeting with 13-seeded Kentucky (26-5) or Oakland (22-9). The second round victor would then return to the state of Kentucky for the Louisville Regional days later.
Head coach Geoff Carlston has led his charges to 10 NCAA Tournament appearances in 12 seasons as a Division-I head coach, including five of seven seasons at Ohio State. The Buckeyes are 29-19 (.604) all-time in the NCAA Tourney and have advanced to the Sweet 16 over 68 percent of the time (13 of 19 appearances).
The Buckeyes and Bison have met just once previously on the volleyball court, coincidentally as NCAA First Round opponents in 2010. Ohio State defeated Lipscomb, 3-1, in Dayton en route to a Sweet 16 showing.
Lipscomb became the first Atlantic Sun Conference team to ever earn an at-large bid. This season marks the Bison’s fifth postseason qualification in school history.
Ohio State is one of six Big Ten institutions to make the 64-team field, joined by Illinois, Michigan State, Nebraska, Penn State and Wisconsin.
