COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s golf team wrapped up the first day of action at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational in a seventh-place tie with Ball State, while carding a 30-over 598 after two rounds of play. Tee-k Kelly led the way for the Buckeyes with a 15th-place, 3-over 145 performance on the par 71, 7,455-yard Scarlet Course at The Ohio State University Golf Club.
Kelly, a sophomore from Wheaton, Ill., started the day off with a solid 2-over 73 first round. He continued the effort into the second round, posting a 1-over 72, with two birdies earned.
Freshman Frederik Hammer birdied two holes in the first round, helping him reach a 1-over 72. In the second round, he recorded yet another birdie on No. 4 to card a 4-over 75. Hammer will begin the final round of play tied for 20th with a 5-over 147 overall score.
Finishing the day tied for 29th, junior Boo Timko earned an 8-over 150. Timko’s classmate Grant Weaver followed with 14-over 156 for a 48th-place tie.
Sophomore Max Rosenthal rounded out the Scarlet and Gray total with an 18-over 160.
California’s Brandon Hagy ranks first on the individual leaderboard with a 4-under 138. The Golden Bears also stand on top the team standings with an impressive 7-under 561.
Play will resume tomorrow, with tee times scheduled for an 8:15 start time off of Nos. 1 and 10.
