Stanley Earns All-America Honors at NCAA Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

Freshman Billy Stanley earned First Team All-America honors with a fourth-place finish in the javelin on the final day of the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships Saturday in Eugene, Ore.
“Bill Stanley had a tremendous impact as a true freshman with his fourth-place first team All-America javelin throw,” Ohio State head coach Ed Beathea said. “We’re proud of his efforts in helping our team to a 21st-place team finish. This is a great way to round out our season.”
Stanley cleared 72.79 meters (238-10) on his sixth attempt to claim the first-ever All-America award for the Buckeyes in the javelin. Sam Humphreys of Texas A&M won the national title with a throw of 77.95 meters (255-09).
A native of South Park, Pa., Stanley closes his freshman campaign as the 2013 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, Big Ten javelin champion and the Ohio State- and Big Ten-record holder in the event.
The Buckeyes concluded the NCAA championships with 11 points, good for 21st-place overall. The standing ranks as Ohio State’s best finish since 2004.
Other All-American honors attained at the championships included senior Michael Hartfield earning First Team honors in the long jump event with a third-place finish. Senior Korbin Smith finished his career with Second Team All-America honors by taking 15th overall in the long jump.
Sophomore Antonio Blanks earned Second Team All-America honors with a 15th-place finish in the 400m hurdles semifinals as did junior Demoye Bogle who finished 13th overall in the 110m hurdles.
Earning Honorable Mention All-America honors were the Buckeyes 4×100 team made up of sophomores Devin Smith, Timothy Faust and Nick Batcha, and junior Demoye Bogle; the 4×400 team squad consisting of freshman Champ Page, seniors Korbin Smith and Marvel Brooks and sophomore Antonio Blanks; senior Chris Fallon in the 1500m; and Faust in the 200m event.
