Ulrike Denker, Emily Walsh Earn CRCA First Team All-Central Region Honors – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio– Ulrike Denker and Emily Walsh, seniors on the No. 4 Ohio State rowing team, were named First Team All Central Region by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA). Sophomore Claire-Louise Bode and junior Allison Elber were second-team recipients.
All four Buckeyes have consistently rowed in the First Varsity Eight during the 2012 season. Winning their races by an average time of 8.06 seconds, the 1V8 concluded the regular season with an 8-1 record. After winning the Silver medal at the Big Ten championships in Indianapolis May 13, the crew’s win total improved to 13 (2 losses).
A nominated student-athlete is evaluated on its team’s regional finish, coach’s recommendations and 2000-meter erg score. Additionally, student-athletes must have competed in 75 percent of an NCAA varsity boat’s races.
CRCA Scholar-Athletes also were announced with five Buckeyes earning the distinction. Denker and classmates Claudia Herpertz, Emily Ralph and Claudia Schiwy, as well as junior Cori Meinert were recognized for earning a 3.5 grade point average or higher while in at least their second year of eligibility. Additionally, student-athletes are required to row in 75 percent of an NCAA varsity boat’s races.
