Buckeyes Conclude Citrus Classic – Ohio State Buckeyes

Orlando, Florida – The Ohio State softball team lost its final two games of the 2012 Citrus Classic at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla. The Buckeyes (11-8; 0-0 Big Ten) fell 1-0 Saturday night vs. Hofstra before losing 4-0 against Pitt Sunday.
Pitt 4, Ohio State 0
The Panthers notched three runs in first inning and one run in the sixth inning, while limiting the OSU bats to five hits en route to the 4-0 win.
Junior designated player Danielle LeBeau went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Buckeyes, while senior right fielder Katie Simonton, senior left fielder Vanessa Spears and sophomore first baseman Evelyn Carrilloeach collected a hit vs. Pitt.
Senior pitcher Mikayla Endicottfell to 7-6 overall after allowing four runs on six hits, while striking out eight Panthers in six innings of work.
Pitt’s Carissa Thorckmorton notched a two-run single, while Kristen Cheesebrew was a hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 3-0. The Panthers collected their fourth run on a RBI double to left field by Cheesebrew in the sixth inning.
Hofstra 1, Ohio State 0 (Saturday, March 3)
The Buckeyes fell 1-0 against Hofstra Saturday night at the ESPN Wide World of Sports.
The Hofstra Pride scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the third inning after Becca Bigler scored from second base following a Buckeye error.
Senior pitcher Mikayla Endicottreceived the loss after throwing 4.2 innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits, while striking out eight batters. Endicott falls to 7-5 overall.
Junior Danielle LeBeau and freshman Taylor Watkins and Shelby Picketteach tallied hits for the Scarlet and Gray.
UP NEXT
The Buckeyes will now have a week off to prepare for their final early tournament of 2012 at the Tennessee State Tournament March 16-18 in Nashville, Tenn. The Scarlet and Gray will open up their home schedule March 24 with a Big Ten series against Indiana at Buckeye Field.
