Ohio State Posts 344.500 Team Total in Tri-Meet at Minnesota – Ohio State Buckeyes

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The No. 6 Ohio State men’s gymnastics team tallied a 344.500 team total to place third in a tri-meet against No. 1 Oklahoma (353.100) and No. 5 Minnesota (350.600) Saturday night at the Sports Pavilion in Minneapolis, Minn. Ohio State will now prepare for the 2012 Big Ten Championships April 6-7 in Iowa City, Iowa.
“We hit 88 percent and I’m very pleased with the hit percentage from our guys tonight,” head coach Rustam Sharipov said. “The guys did a great job and I thought Danny Steiner, Ty Echard and Mike Behles competed well for us tonight. We finished the regular season on a strong note and we now know where we stand heading into the postseason.”
The Buckeyes began on pommel horse, posting a 56.60 team score. The squad was led by senior co-captain Ty Echard who tallied a 15.00 to win his 12th career pommel horse title. Redshirt sophomore Michael Newburger scored a 14.50 to claim third place.
In the second rotation, Ohio State traveled to rings, scoring a 57.10 team mark. Senior Mike Behles, who competed in his first meet of the season, tallied a 15.10 to lead the team and tie for second overall.
Next, the Buckeyes traveled to vault where they were led by Behles with a 14.90 to tie for fourth overall. Rounding out the Top 3 for the Scarlet and Gray were freshmen Danny Steiner and Andrew Teal who earned a 14.80 and 14.70, respectively. Teal’s score was a season high, while Steiner’s mark tied his previous season high. The Buckeyes finished on vault with a 58.70 team score.
The Scarlet and Gray then traveled to parallel bars where they earned a 56.20. Koudinov led the team with a 14.80 to tie for third place. Rounding out the Top 3 were Drew Moling (14.20) and Behles (13.70). Moling’s score was a season high on parallel bars.
In the fifth rotation, Ohio State competed on high bar and tallied a 55.90. Koudinov led the squad with a 14.40 to tie for fifth overall. Junior captain Blaize Monks followed with a 14.10 and freshmen Alex Nork and Moling notched a pair of 13.70s to round out the team.
In the final rotation, the Buckeyes traveled to floor exercise to earn an even 60.00. Steiner led the team tying for second overall with a 15.40. Monks and Teal tallied a pair of 14.70s.
