Athletes of the Week
Max McCormick, a forward for the No. 17-ranked Ohio State men’s hockey team, was named the CCHA Rookie of the Week after posting three points in the Buckeyes’ series at Western Michigan over the weekend. Against the Broncos, McCormick had two power play goals and an assist. He has a point on 11 of the Buckeyes’ last 16 goals, is on a five-game scoring streak, with 6-4-10 totals in the stretch and multiple points in all but one game. He is third on the team with 10 goals this season and is tied for third with 21 points. He is fourth in scoring among CCHA rookies and ranks second among conference freshmen with 20 points in league play.
Men’s lacrosse junior attackman Logan Schuss led the Buckeyes to two wins last weekend as theteam started the 2012 campaign. He had nine points in the two gamescombined, with four goals, two assists and six points vs. Detroitlast Thursday and a goal and two assists for three points at MercerSaturday. Schuss has at least one point in all 32 games of hiscollegiate career, with 68 goals, 49 assists and 117 points.
No. 3 Men’s Basketball (21-4, 9-3 Big Ten)
Head coach: Thad Matta
WilliamBuford, the only senior on the Ohio State roster, scored acareer-high 29 points and capped his night with a pivotal dunk inthe final minute to lead the Buckeyes past hot-shooting Purdue87-84 Feb. 7.
Adreian Payne scored 15 points, Draymond Green had 12 anddefense-minded No. 11 Michigan State beat No. 3 Ohio State 58-48Feb. 11, ending the Buckeyes’ 39-game home winning streak.
No. 10 Women’s Basketball (22-3, 9-3 Big Ten)

Ohio State senior point guard Samantha Prahalis has been named the Big Ten player of the weekin recognition of her performance Feb. 6 in the win over Wisconsin.This is her seventh career weekly honor from the Big Ten and herthird of the season.
After Tayler Hill drove the lane for a driving right-handed layup intraffic with 19 seconds left to give Ohio State a one-point lead,Illinois’ Alexis Moore answered with a twisting go-ahead basket togive the Illini (9-16, 3-9 Big Ten) a 66-65 win vs. No. 10 OhioState Feb. 9.
Prahalis, the only senior on Ohio State’s roster, has been througha lot of battles on the court. So it figured that when the No. 10Buckeyes were badly in need of a bucket Feb. 12 against No. 16Purdue, it was their most experienced player who supplied a daggerof a 3-pointer with 41 seconds left to pave the way to an 80-71victory.
Men’s Golf

Ohio State fell to Northwestern, 5-1, Feb. 10 in the semifinalsof the Big Ten Match Play Championship in Bradenton, Fla. TheScarlet and Gray advanced to the semifinals after two wins Friday,but were unable to hang on to reach the finals of thetournament.
No. 11 Women’s Gymnastics
Head coach: Carey Fagan
No. 11 Ohio State recorded a team season high to defeat No. 23Iowa 196.125-194.425 Feb. 10 in St. John Arena.
No. 11 Ohio State posted a 195.450 to win a quad meet at No. 24West Virginia Feb. 11 in Morgantown. The Mountaineers finishedsecond with a 195.175, Auburn came in third at 193.650 and BallState recorded a 191.775 for fourth.
No. 15 Men’s Ice Hockey (15-11-5, 11-10-5-1 CCHA)
Head coach: Mark Osiecki
No. 15-ranked Ohio State lost to No. 18 Western Michigan, 3-2in overtime, Feb. 10 at Lawson Ice Arena in Kalamazoo, Mich. TheBuckeyes battled back from a goal down twice in the game, includinga game-tying score by freshman Max McCormick in the third period, but the Broncos’ DaneWalters scored 3:20 into overtime to lift WMU to the conferencewin.

Women’s Ice Hockey (15-13-4, 12-13-1-1 WCHA)

Three members of the Ohio State women’s hockey team were namedWCHA Scholar-Athletes, the league announced Feb. 9. Senior Kelly Wild, junior Minttu Tuominen and sophomore Madison Marcotte were among the record 96 men’s and women’sstudent-athletes honored by the conference.
Second-ranked Minnesota defeated Ohio State, 5-0, Feb. 10 at theOSU Ice Rink.
Ohio State fell to No. 2 Minnesota, 7-4, Feb. 10 at the OSU IceRink in the team’s regular season home finale. Senior Natalie Spooner led the team and had a hand in all four Buckeyegoals, having two goals and two assists.
Men’s Lacrosse (2-0)

Ohio State opened its 2012 campaign with an 11-6 victory overDetroit Feb. 9 in the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. The Buckeyes led3-1 after the first quarter and 8-3 at halftime en route to thevictory.
Ohio State moved to 2-0 on the year with a 15-8 victory at MercerFeb. 11 in Macon, Ga. The game was the Bears’ first of theseason.
No. 16 Women’s Lacrosse (2-0)

16th-ranked Ohio State cruised to a 19-4 victory over San DiegoState Feb. 10 in Palo Alto, Calif., in a neutral site game atStanford.
Gabby Cupuzzi had a game-high four goals and an assist as18th-ranked Ohio State upset No. 6 Stanford, 14-10, Feb. 11 atLaird Q. Cagan Stadium in Palo Alto, Calif. The Buckeyes get off toa 2-0 start to the season for the first time since 2009, while theCardinal drops to 0-2 with a pair of losses to ranked ALC teams inthe opening weekend.

In its 2012 opener, Ohio State split two games Feb. 10 at the2012 Dot Richardson NTC Tournament at the NTC Complex in Clermont,Fla. The Buckeyes defeated FAU, 9-6, in game two after falling,2-1, in game one against UCF.

Third-ranked Ohio State remained unbeaten after defeating No.35 Louisville 6-1 in its first road match of the year Feb. 9 at theBass-Rudd Tennis Center.
Third-ranked Ohio State won its Big Ten opener after shutting outNo. 55 Michigan State 7-0 in its first road match of the year Feb.11 at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. It was the 14th-consecutivevictory vs. the Spartans, helping Ohio State stay unbeaten at 9-0this season.

DemoyeBogle posted a school-record time of 7.76 seconds* in the 60mhurdles – the eighth best in Division I track and field this season- to take first place for 15th-ranked Ohio State at the Don KirbyElite Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.
Cory Leslie set a new school record in the 800m at the FlotrackHusky Classic in Seattle, Wash., highlighting the Buckeye effort atthe Dempsey Indoor Building.
No. 18 Women’s Track and Field

Ohio State sprinter/hurdler Christina Manning was named Big Ten Track Athlete of the WeekFeb. 6 by the conference office after running the best race of hercareer thus far at Illinois’ Orange and Blue Open. This is thefourth indoor Athlete of the Week award for Manning this season,with her most recent award coming Jan. 30, and the fifth of hercareer.
Members of the No. 18 Ohio State women’s track and field teamcompleted day two of the Spire Invitational Feb. 10. The Scarletand Gray turned in five personal-best times during the second dayof competition. Jordan Jennewine used a PR of 4:47.76 to finish eighth in OhioState’s top performance during day two.

No. 8/9 Ohio State earned a 3-1 (27-29, 25-11, 25-21, 25-20)win over IPFW in the team’s MIVA season opener Feb. 10 in FortWayne, Ind.

Sixth-ranked Ohio State wrestling team downed Boise State,26-9, in the first round of the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals Feb.11 at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater, Okla.
No. 6 Ohio State lost a 25-6 decision to top-ranked Oklahoma StateFeb. 11 in the Stillwater Regional final at the 2012 NWCA/CliffKeen National Duals at Gallagher-Iba Arena. Oklahoma State was oneof four regional hosts.
