Athletes of the Week
Women’s basketball senior guard Tayler Hill averaged 22.0 points, 4.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 3.5 rebounds while shooting 48 percent from the field as Ohio State went 1-1 last week. In a three-point loss at No. 22 UNC, Hill scored a game-high 24 points, hitting four 3FGs while dishing out four assists. She also went over the 1,500 career point mark in the process. In the win over Evansville, Hill scored 20 points and dished out four more assists in just 29 minutes as the Buckeyes improved to 5-2.
Men’s hockey senior goalie Brady Hjelle allowed just one goal in two wins at MichiganState (.50 gaa), stopping 53-of-54 shots for a .981 savepercentage. Named CCHA Goaltender of the Week for thesecond-consecutive week and third time this season, Hjelle has a1.23 goals-against average and .957 save percentage on the year,ranking second in the NCAA and first in the CCHA in bothcategories. He is also tied for third nationally with threeshutouts. Hjelle leads the CCHA with a .59 goals-against averageand .978 save percentage in conference play, allowing four goals insix starts and seven games played.
No. 7 Men’s Basketball (5-1, 0-0 Big Ten)

Ohio State fell to No. 2 Duke, 73-68, Wednesday night (Nov. 28)in the seventh meeting between the teams at Cameron Indoor Stadiumin Durham, N.C.
Junior forward Deshaun Thomas scored 16 points for the Buckeyes while juniorguards Aaron Craft and Lenzelle Smith Jr. scored 11 points each.
With his team-high 16 points, Thomas passed 1,000 points for hisOhio State career (81 games).
Sophomore center Amir Williams grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds in the losswhile sophomore forward Sam Thompson collected a career-high eight rebounds.
The Buckeyes defeated Northern Kentucky, 70-43, Saturday (Dec. 1)at Value City Arena.
LaQuinton Ross scored a career-high 22 points and collected acareer-high eight rebounds, while Thomas added 14 points andThompson scored 10 for the Scarlet & Gray.
Craft recorded four steals against the Norse, a season high. He nowhas 181 for his career, good for No. 3 all-time in Ohio Statehistory.
Ohio State returns to action Saturday, Dec. 8 against SavannahState at Value City Arena. Tipoff is set for 12 p.m.
No. 20 Women’s Basketball (5-2, 0-0 Big Ten)

Ohio State fell to No. 22 North Carolina, 57-54, Wednesdaynight (Nov. 28) at Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Senior guard Tayler Hill led all scorers with 24 points to reach 1,500points for her career. Hill became the 14th Buckeye to score atleast 1,500 points.
Behind Hill, junior center Ashley Adams tallied eight points and five blocks, whileredshirt-senior guard Amber Stokes tallied seven points and junior center Darryce Moore tallied six.
The Buckeyes earned their 27th consecutive home victory with a78-33 win over Evansville in a non-conference game Saturday (Dec.1).
Hill scored 20 points while Adams added 14 points. All 13 playersscored for the Buckeyes, who led 40-23 at halftime and began thesecond half with a 25-0 run to take complete command.
Stokes added eight points, while freshman guard Ameryst Alston and redshirt junior center Aleksandra Dobranic, who each made their first career starts,also chipped in eight points.
Alston also had eight rebounds for the Scarlet & Gray whilenotching three assists and a steal.
The Buckeyes return to action Sunday, Dec. 9 vs. Lafayette. Tipoffis set for 1 p.m. at Value City Arena.
Men’s Gymnastics

The Buckeyes open the 2012-13 season with the Scarlet &Gray Intrasquad Saturday, Dec. 8. The meet starts at 2 p.m. andwill take place at the Steelwood Athletic Facility.
Men’s Hockey (7-4-3, 6-2-2-1 CCHA)

Ohio State defeated Michigan State, 1-0, Friday (Nov. 30) atMunn Ice Arena in East Lansing, Mich.
Sophomore Ryan Dzingel scored the third-period game winning goal. Dzingelhas a team-best three game winning goals (tying for thirdnationally) and six tallies on the year and is on a seven-gamepoint streak with four goals, six assists and 10 points.
Senior goalie Brady Hjelle had 31 saves for his third shutout of theseason.
Hjelle currently leads the CCHA with a .59 goals-against averageand .978 save percentage in conference play, allowing four goals insix starts and seven games played. He has been the first star inall six of his league starts.
The Buckeyes returned to the ice Saturday (Dec. 1), sweeping theseries with a 3-1 win over Michigan State.
Freshman Tyler Lundey scored two goals including the game winner, whilesophomore Tanner Fritz tied the game for the Buckeyes at 6:50 mark in thesecond period.
Ohio State will play three of its next four games in Columbus toclose the first half of the season. The squad will open ahome-and-home series vs. Robert Morris at 7:05 p.m. Friday in ValueCity Arena before the teams meet in Pittsburgh Saturday. Dec.14-15, the Buckeyes will host Miami in a two-game CCHA series inValue City Arena.
No. 10 Women’s Hockey (12-5-1, 9-4-1 WCHA)

Ohio State skated to a 0-0 tie with Minnesota State Friday(Nov. 30) at All Seasons Arena in Mankato, Minn.
The Buckeyes picked up the extra point in the standings by winningthe shootout, 3-1.
Redshirt junior goaltender Chelsea Knapp stopped all 34 shots faced while holding theMavericks scoreless, including on three power playopportunities.
Senior forward Hokey Langan, junior forward Ally Tarr and sophomore forward Taylor Kuehl scored goals for the Buckeyes for the shootoutvictory.
Ohio State skated past Minnesota State Saturday (Dec. 1) winningthe second game of the series, 4-3.
Langan scored twice while freshman forward Julia McKinnon scored the game-winner for the Buckeyes.
Langan’s second goal was her 50th career goal and gave her 122career points, moving her into fifth all-time at Ohio State forcareer points passing former Buckeye Erin Keys (2005-08).
Ohio State finishes off the first-half of the regular season with anon-conference tilt with RIT at the OSU Ice Rink, Dec. 8-9.
Pistol
Head Coach: James Sweeney
Ohio State traveled to The Citadel Dec. 1-2, competing againstthe Bulldogs and the Virginia Military Institute.
The Buckeyes came away with wins in four of the five events,winning both open and women’s aggregates.
Senior Blake Reburn took first place in free pistol with a 531,while junior Aaron Tourigny took first place in open air with a 558and junior Joe Totts broke the school away match record with a first placefinish in standard pistol (563).
In women’s competition, junior Kim Hullings took first place inboth women’s air pistol (357) and women’s sport pistol (552).
Ohio State now heads into the winter offseason; the Buckeyes returnto action at the Camp Perry Open in Camp Perry, Ohio, Jan.12-13.
Rifle
Head Coach: Ryan Tanoue
Ohio State competed at the U.S. Winter Air Rifle ChampionshipsNov. 30 – Dec. 2.
Sophomore Greg Hagar advanced to his first final round this season andled the Buckeyes in overall aggregate scoring. After firing a 100.3in the final, Hagar finished seventh in the Junior category. Heposted a 580 and a 577, respectively, on the second and third daysof competition.
Junior Daniel Chapman posted scores of 573, 575 and 571 over threedays of competition while freshman Alexander Kimura finished 566, 572 and 569 in his thirdappearance as a Buckeye and senior Maxwell Snyderman fired 568, 568 and 580 throughout theweekend.
For the women’s team, sophomore Megan Polonsky led the team in aggregate scoring, firing scoresof 386, 386 and 387 respectively while junior Amanda Luoma excelled on the second and third days incompetition firing a 389 and 387.
Senior Amanda Furrer rounded out the Buckeye competition. The 2012Olympian fired a 393 on the first day earning a spot in the finalround. After firing a 99.8 in the final, Furrer finished seventhoverall for the day. She followed with a 388 and 391 on the secondand third days respectively.
The Winter Rifle Championships marked the last competition beforethe Buckeyes head into their winter offseason. They will return toaction at the Camp Perry Open in Camp Perry, Ohio, Jan. 12-13,2013.
No. 10 Men’s Swimming and Diving
Head Coach: Bill Wadley
Ohio State posted its fourth-consecutive championship at theOhio State Invitational with 1,306 points, claiming the title by a300-point margin of victory.
The team won 10 of the 18 swimming races over the three days withsix different Buckeyes registering an individual win or wins andsix Buckeyes a part of a victorious relay team or teams.
Junior Shane Miszkiel, a three-time Big Ten Diver of the Week thispast fall, won the platform finals with a total score of363.10.
The Buckeyes posted the fastest time in the country to date in the200-yard freestyle as seniors Jason Schnur, Zach Birnbrich, Zach Holmes and redshirt-junior Tim Phillips notched a meet record with a time of1:17.84.
In the 500 freestyle, junior Alex Miller claimed the second fastest time in the country todate at 4:19.51 to win the event.
In the 200 medley relay, the team of sophomore Steven Zimmerman, Keanu Stevenson, Phillips and Schnur posted a meet record of1:26.79 while junior Garrett Trebilcock, junior David Stone, Birnbrich and Holmes placed second with a time of1:26.93.

No. 16 Women’s Swimming and Diving

Ohio State closed out a strong weekend of competition at theOhio State Invitational with a third-place finish at McCorkleAquatic Pavilion.
Overall, 22 different Buckeyes posted at least one individual NCAA”B” time standards, while 18 different swimmers made at least onechampionship final.
In the 500 freestyle, junior Alex Norris finished seventh in the finals with an NCAA “B”time of 4:45.49. Her preliminary time of 4:45.14 was the best by aBuckeye this year.
In diving, junior Cheyenne Cousineau claimed the victory in the 1-meterspringboard event. Couisneau, who has claimed two Big Ten Diver ofthe Week honors this fall, tallied 293.70 points for the win.
In the 200 medley relay, the team of Kelsey Moran, Angela Severn, Shannon Draves and Megan Detro posted the fastest time in 2012 at 1:38.98 forthird place overall in the final.

No. 5 Wrestling

Ohio State won the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Wrestling InvitationalSaturday (Dec. 1) at the Las Vegas Convention Center for the secondconsecutive year.
The Buckeyes collected 124.5 points and boasted six Top 4finishes.
Redshirt sophomore Logan Stieber, a 133-pounder, posted four pins en route to thefinal where he recorded a 12-1 major decision over No. 2 NathanMcCormick. Stieber was named the tournament’s Most OutstandingWrestler.
Sophomore Hunter Stieber, won the 141-pound title after a five-matcheffort that included a fall and major decision in the preliminaryrounds. In the championship bout, Stieber downed No. 2 MichaelMangrum of Oregon State, 9-6.
Senior Nikko Triggas (125), sophomore Cam Tessari (149) and redshirt junior heavyweight Peter Capone finished fourth in their respective weightclasses.
Ohio State returns to action when it hosts No. 23 Kent State at 7p.m. Dec. 14 in St. John Arena. The Buckeyes lead the all-timeseries vs. the Golden Flashes, 12-6, including a 22-15 win in Kent,Ohio, last season.
No. 14 Women’s Volleyball (23-11)
Head coach: Geoff Carlston
Ohio State opened the 2012 NCAA Women’s Volleyball Tournamentwith a 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-17) win over Notre Dame Friday (Nov.30) in Lexington, Ky.
The Buckeye offense powered the team as it finished with aseason-best .512 attack percentage.
Junior Kaitlyn Leary paced the Scarlet & Gray with a career-best.842 attack percentage, totaling 16 kills on 19 attempts with noerrors. Senior Mari Hole totaled 14 kills while classmates Mariah Booth and Emily Danks had nine and eight kills, respectively.
Defensively, junior libero Davionna DiSalvatore notched her 30th double-digit digperformance of the season with a match-best 13 digs. Leary addedseven for the Buckeyes.
The Buckeyes closed out the season with a 3-1 (25-18, 24-26, 15-25,18-25) loss to 16th-seeded Kentucky in the second round of the NCAATournament in Memorial Coliseum on the University of Kentuckycampus.
Hole picked up her 18th double-double of the season with amatch-high 18 kills and 12 digs, while Leary totaled 14 kills andBooth had nine.
DiSalvatore collected her 31st double-digit dig match with 16,while Booth and classmate Amanda Peterson had four blocks.
