Athletes of the Week
Senior Natalie Spooner had a record-breaking weekend in the women’s hockey team’s series split at St. Cloud State, Jan. 6-7. The assistant captain finished with three goals and one assist for the Buckeyes in route to become Ohio State’s all-time leading goal scorer. With the three goals, Spooner leads all current and former Buckeyes with 87 goals in her career and also has 140 career points. That mark is fourth-best in the program’s history and is six points shy of tying Jeni Creary career point total of 146 for third.
Sophomore Michelle Williams of the women’s swimming and diving team wontwo individual races and part of two winning relays at Toledo: 50free (23.72), 100 free (51.59), 200 medley relay (1:42.40) and 400free relay (3:28.18). Ohio State won the meet against Toledo 201-99to move to 6-0 in dual meets on the season and has won both thePitt and OSU invitationals.
No. 6 Men’s Basketball (15-2, 3-1 Big Ten)

JaredSullinger had 19 points and 12 rebounds, and No. 6 Ohio Stateshook off its most recent loss with a 71-40 victory over NebraskaJan. 3.
Sophomore guard Aaron Craft was named one of 20 finalists for the 2012 BobCousy Collegiate Point Guard of the Year Award Jan. 4.
Sullinger scored a season-high 28 points and sixth-ranked OhioState pounded Iowa 76-47 Jan. 7.
No. 12 Women’s Basketball (15-1, 2-1 Big Ten)

SamanthaPrahalis scored 30 points and Tayler Hill added 28 to rally Ohio State from a 15-pointfirst-half deficit for an 84-71 victory over Iowa Jan. 2.
Courtney Boylan scored 19 points to help Michigan give Ohio Stateits first loss of the season, a 73-62 decision, Jan. 7.

NickOddo, a forward on the No. 2-ranked Ohio State men’s hockeyteam, has been named the CCHA Gongshow Rookie of the Week, theCentral Collegiate Hockey Association announced Jan. 2.
Oddo has been selected as the CCHA Gongshow Rookie of the Month,the Central Collegiate Hockey Association announced Jan. 4. Oddo,from Omaha, Neb., averaged a point a game during December as theBuckeyes went 4-1 en route to a No. 2 national ranking.
With goals from freshmen Al McLean and Max McCormick in the final 3:48 of regulation, along with 35saves from senior Cal Heeter, No. 2-ranked Ohio State camee from behind for a 2-2overtime tie at Bowling Green Jan. 7 in the BGSU Ice Arena inBowling Green, Ohio.
No. 2-ranked Ohio State skated to a 1-1 tie at Bowling Green andthen dropped the shootout, 2-1 in five rounds, Jan. 8 at BGSU IceArena in Bowling Green, Ohio. Heeter had a season-best 38 saves inthe game, with McCormick recording the Ohio State goal.
Women’s Ice Hockey (10-8-4, 7-8-1-1 WCHA)

Ohio State defeated Michigan State 5,420-4,543 Jan. 7 at theMSU Demmer Shooting Sports Center. The Buckeyes won all five eventsand took first place individually in each event.
Women’s Swimming and Diving

In its first competition of the new year, Ohio State posted a201-99 victory at Toledo in a dual meet Jan. 7. The Buckeyes wonboth relays, and Ohio State had all but four of the individualwinners in the meet.

Ohio State will begin its spring schedule in the same positionin the ITA standings as it finished the 2011 campaign. The Buckeyesopen their season Jan. 18th with a doubleheader against Butler andWright State as the No .3 ranked team in the nation in theinaugural 2012 Campbell/ITA College Tennis Rankings.

Ohio State officially opened its season Jan. 6 with the BuckeyeClassic. The Buckeyes started the season strong with 11 first-placefinishes in front of a hometown crowd at French Field Housecompeting against runners from Wright State, Ohio University, theNAIA’s Shorter, and several unattached athletes from thearea.
No. 8 Men’s Volleyball (1-2)

No. 8 Ohio State opened the 2012 season with acome-from-behind, 3-2 (19-25, 18-25, 25-19, 28-26, 15-9), victoryover No. 14 UC Santa Barbara in the first round of the UC SantaBarbara Invitational Dec. 6.
No. 8 Ohio State finished fourth at the UCSB/asics CollegiateInvitational after falling 3-0 to No. 3 UCLA late Jan. 6 and then3-2 to No. 6 Long Beach State Jan. 7. The two-day, eight-teaminvitational was held at UC Santa Barbara, Jan. 6-7.

Despite splitting wins with No. 14 Nebraska, sixth-ranked OhioState was edged by the Huskers, 18-16, Jan. 6 at NU Coliseum inLincoln.
No. 6 Ohio State lost, 24-13, to No. 3 Minnesota Jan. 8 at theSports Pavilion in Minneapolis, Minn. A trio of freshmen inHunter Stieber, Cam Tessari and Josh Demas garnered wins for the Buckeyes.
