Mignin and Sherwin Named Big Ten Players of the Week – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio – The Big Ten Conference announced today Big Ten Player of the Week honors for Sarah Mignin and Taylor Sherwin. Mignin was named the co-defensive player of the week for the second consecutive week and Sherwin was the freshman player of the week. The pair helped 25th-ranked Ohio State (10-3 overall) win the Sports Imports Classic last weekend with 3-1 wins over Albany (25-21, 25-16, 25-27, 27-25) and Maryland (25-18, 25-16, 25-27, 25-18) and a 3-0 (25-9, 25-21, 25-17) victory over Akron. At the Classic, Mignin was named the most outstanding defensive player.
Mignin averaged 6.27 digs per set for the three matches and handled 69 serve reception attempts without an error. She tied her career-high of 30 digs against Albany and tied her career-high of three aces against Maryland. Mignin converted 24 of 69 digs (.348) to kills and had a .406 reception to kills percentage (28 of 69) in the three matches. Her play helped hold OSU’s three opponents to a .154 attack percentage.
Sherwin directed the Buckeye offense to the Sports Imports Classic Championship. She averaged 14.18 assists and 2.00 digs per set helping OSU to a .304 attack percentage for the three matches. Defensively, she produced a career-high 14 digs in the Albany match, adding a solo and one assist block against the Great Danes.
The Buckeyes begin Big Ten Conference play this weekend playing at Iowa (10-3) Friday and at 10th-ranked Nebraska (7-1) Saturday.
