Three Buckeyes Named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The trio of Brad Smith, Bo Hoag and Michael Cress were named Division I Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), the office announced. The honor is the second for Smith and Hoag and the first for Cress.
To be eligible for the honor an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team’s competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2.
Smith, a finance major from Peru, Ind., concluded his final season at Ohio State with a 72.63 stroke average to tie for first on the squad and carded eight rounds in the 60s and 11 under par. He claimed his first-career medalist honor at the FAU Spring Break Championship, firing a field-best 208. Smith earned All-Big Ten Second Team honors and was named to the PING Midwest All-Region team. Academically, he earned Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America Men’s At-Large second team honors and is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and a four-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete.
Hoag, an economics major from Upper Arlington, Ohio, finished his senior season tied for first on the team with a 72.63 stroke average over 36 rounds. He had a team-best 12 rounds under par, including seven rounds n the 60s. Hoag shot a career-low 64 in the final round of the Windon Memorial Classic where he finished second. He was named to the All-Big Ten First Team and earned PING Midwest All-Region honors. Hoag finished his collegiate career as a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and a four-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete.
Cress, a biology major from Dublin, Ohio, was third on the squad with a 73.46 stroke average his senior year. He led the Buckeyes at the NCAA West Regional, tying for fourth-place with a career-best, 54-hoole score of 211. Cress was also Ohio State’s top finisher at the 2010 Jack Nicklaus Invitational after tying for 10th place. He concluded his Buckeye career as a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and a four-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete.
