Claire-Louise Bode Joins Elite Contingent at World Rowing U-23 Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Claire-Louise Bode, a rising sophomore for the Ohio State rowing team, will represent South Africa at the 2011 World Rowing Under-23 Championships July 20-24 in Amsterdam.
Bode, who hails from Johannesburg, will once again team with Kate Christowitz as the South African pair aims to improve on their fourth-place finish from a year ago at the 2010 edition in Brest, Belarus.
After finishing second in the preliminary heat and therefore advancing to the A Final in 2010, the duo became the first South African women’s crew to qualify for the final stage at the Under-23 level.
Bode, who was a fixture in the First Varsity Eight for the Buckeyes during her freshman campaign, earned Second Team CRCA All-Central Region and All-Big Ten honors.
Of note, Bode was part of the 1V8 that helped secure Ohio State’s third Big Ten title in program history in May. With the Buckeyes needing either a win or runner-up finish in the final race of the conference championships, Bode and the 1V8 crew clipped Michigan by .48 seconds for second place and the Big Ten crown.
It is a record-breaking year for the Under-23 championships. Sixty-three nations have entered a record 314 crews. The previous best in terms of participation was 309 crews representing 57 countries in 2010.
